Re: Song Fight! Live 2020 SF Bay Area Aug 28/29

Yeah all these places are already hanging on by a thread as it is. Lots of places in Seattle have been dropping like flies too.

Re: Song Fight! Live 2020 SF Bay Area Aug 28/29

There's been a few scattered discussions about how to do an online concert, presumably for the purpose of figuring out how to do this should it come down to it.

I still need to get around to trying out JamKazam, which supposedly is a solution for exactly this.

Re: Cooking

Oh also used some very strong cold brew coffee to make soda. It’s interesting.

Re: Cooking

I made some refried beans. Bought lard and everything. And just to make it interesting I used red beans instead of the traditional pinto or black.

Re: Ye olde songfight?

Brubeck took a lot of inspiration from classical music. Add some grace notes to Beethoven and you’re half way there (oh, living on a prayer)

Re: Ye olde songfight?

I'd be into it but mostly because I've already had a lot of experience doing jazz renditions of Mozart and Beethoven and have been wanting an excuse to force myself to finally record one.

Oh just as a followup on the above, the problem was my macOS installation got hecked up. Reinstalling everything (sigh) cleared all the problems up.

Re: Web based collaboration tools

I've been playing with endlesss a lot lately and it's a lot of fun. It's very loop-oriented and the instruments don't give a huge amount of flexibility but it's fun to jam with random people on the Internet in a constrained way. They also often have a live stream of an ongoing jam at https://www.twi...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett audio interfaces

I recently upgraded to the third-gen 18i8 and I love it. It supports all the wonky routing and monitoring stuff I care about, and it's been rock-solid and reliable for me so far (after I repaired my system installation, anyway). And you know how easily-annoyed I am at trivial bullshit.

Oh yeah I did a Chef John recipe recently, his sausage and bean stew. The recipe so nice I've made it twice!

I didn't take pictures though, sorry.

Also Jerry Stiller, although that seems to have just been old age (at least no specific cause has been announced and he was 92).

I found the ending a bit disappointing. I totally understood what they were going for and I think I appreciated it at a meta level but it felt very unsatisfying, all the same. But maybe that was the point too?

Re: Original Flava Coverfight - COVID-19 Special Edition

Glennny for Fluffy - Cindy on the Bus - This reminds me of the Violent Femmes. It has a classic, familiar feel to it. Nice production--the vocals and acoustic sound good, I like the energy level of this cover, and the synths are really cool--the croaky one in the back and the little organ-ish noodl...

Re: Original Flava Coverfight - COVID-19 Special Edition

Glennny for Fluffy - Cindy on the Bus If someone had asked me which song of mine Glenny should cover, this would absolutely be the one. I'm really digging this arrangement! Just realizing this might be a very long LP tonight - up to 17+ Cover songs - plus the original song that was covered - and 20...

It seems to be pretty good at generating beats right now. Otherwise it just comes across as being very aleatoric. What's your training set?

Re: Tools for composing and synching a soundtrack to video

Yeah, Logic has a scoring mode. It isn't *great* but it works well enough. I've used it for scoring a few animations, and you can set the snapping to be frame-based rather than measure/beat/tick based.
