Re: My Life
I've been making some headway into pivoting to music as my full-time career but it's feeling difficult to get other people to care about it. But I'm plugging along and making music because the alternative is not making music, which feels worse. How about you?

Re: Song Fight! Live 2025
Well I guess I have no choice but to attend. My home recording studio (which is around 12 minutes from the venue by car) will be available as a practice space for those who need it. I'd also be able to accommodate one or two people with lodging on my couch if they need it although that's more of a d...

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels
Yeah, just to clarify, Content ID is the copyright enforcement thing, Content Mapping is where it decides whether to put a release onto an artist's official YouTube channel or onto a "topic" channel. For example, here's my official YouTube page: https://youtube.com/@realfakesockpuppet and ...

Content ID is different than content mapping, but nice to know that thing is finally working, jeeze.

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels
PS. LANDR appears to have a dedicated form to link YouTube artist channels. I haven't tested it though. Too Lost has a form too and I’ve filled it out many times and each time they say it’ll be taken care of. It never is. I’m not sure if the problem is with Too Lost or if it’s on YouTube’s end. Dis...

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels
... I’m switching away from distrokid after using them for like 15 years. I mean they still fucking suck in a lot of respects but what in the streaming industry doesn’t? Do yo have an update on your experience with them? So far they’ve been okay, not great. They told me to rerelease my albums with ...

Re: Rest In Peace
I got to meet him back in 2006 or 2007. Pretty sweet genuine guy in person. Also I loved how matter-of-fact the trans representation was in Twin Peaks, back in an era when trans people in media were almost always just a cruel joke.

There's quite a few Song Fight!ers of yore. PrayForMojo, State Shirt, Ross Durand, and Rabid Garfunkel all come to mind.

LA fires
I'm sure that our LA Song Fight! contingent has better things to be doing than to check the forums right now but I hope that everyone who lives in the area is safe and avoiding catastrophe as best they can.

By every reasonable definition, yes, I'm just hoping to find something that makes JB have to reevaluate his personal ban on classic rock

Apparently some people think Journey, U2, and Bryan Adams are classic rock, judging by this music discord community I’m on

Re: Happy 2025!
Some of the then-current bands you grew up with are likely to be considered "classic rock" now.
I remember feeling very strange when I was listening to the classic rock station and Soundgarden came on.

Happy 2025!
Maybe I'm posting this a little early but whatevs, year delineations are a social construct anyway.
How did 2024 go for everyone, and what do they hope to accomplish in 2025?
Personally I've blogged about it, as usual.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
Springy clip-on stands can be really good. I have one that's similar to https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=602506 (only for a USB mic) and it's great for what I use it for. That's the style I was hoping for with the previously-discussed stand.

Oh, sure, anyone is free to invite anyone to participate in a compilation. I'm just saying that I wouldn't want this to be a thing that's an official part of Song Fight! itself.

Re: There Is No Prize...
If you just want to buy a Berkeley Social Scene album you can already do that More seriously, no, I don't like that idea, because that raises the stakes for people in such a way that the problems we already have with attempted cheating will get a lot worse, and also there are so many songs that peop...

I'm tempted but the reviews on it are pretty dismal. It'd still be a nicer setup for my desk mic though.

Re: Song Fight on Bluesky
It looks like my brid.gy account got added to the starter pack but that just mirrors my RSS feed, more or less, and is also janky and likely to break in the future. Actual interactions with me should be through my actual bsky (which also gets my RSS feed items in it, and will have a lot more stuff t...
