Re: Community Check-In and Feedback

Easy way would be to case-fold into a sorting field, which would also be a good opportunity to remove "the" from the beginning to get proper title sorting.

Re: Songfight Live 2022 IRL Interest Poll

I mean it’s out of range to drive there from Seattle in my 2018 Leaf, which has around 100 miles of range and the slower charge port standard that’s hard to find now.

Re: Songfight Live 2022 IRL Interest Poll

My piddly electric car definitely can't go that far but if anyone else wants to road trip from Seattle and is fine with me tagging along/paying for gas, I'd totally be into it. Or maybe there's a bus or train that works.

And now we also know the magic incantation to bother them with if it starts happening again due to a new security rule in the future.

Re: 500 Internal Server Error triggered by specific text string

And ironically now I can't edit that message because I seem to have exceeded some sort of "anomaly score"

This is getting ridiculous and this is yet another reason why I don't take Dreamhost particularly seriously anymore.

Re: 500 Internal Server Error triggered by specific text string

fluffy I think the error message in the logs has the regex that's being used? Or at least, it prints out some super long regex. Ah, so it does. So here's one such log entry: [Tue Apr 26 13:07:04.431164 2022] [:error] [pid 230823:tid 3690573842176] [client 96.92.148.2:54914] [client 96.92.148.2] Mod...

Re: 500 Internal Server Error triggered by specific text string

Oh also if you're on Windows you should be able to pepper your text with invisible space characters by holding alt, typing +FEFF, then releasing alt, which is easier than typing [b][/b] a lot. There's a similar thing you can do on Mac but it's significantly more involved.

Re: 500 Internal Server Error triggered by specific text string

Unfortunately I don't think dreamhost publishes their mod_security match rules anywhere, to see what might be causing the problem. I can see if I can track something down though.

Re: 500 Internal Server Error triggered by specific text string

Yeah, it's also a great way to get around the "not enough characters" error that phpBB makes. That said I have absolutely no idea why "; mo re" would be a mod_security trigger. Any situation where a semicolon can wreak that kind of havoc has much bigger problems than someone being able to interactiv...

Re: 500 Internal Server Error triggered by specific text string

fluffy identified this issue already. There is some security software installed (the "ModSecurity" module for the Apache http server) which is matching posts against patterns and incorrectly flagging harmless snippets like that as security risks, then throwing the generic 500 internal server error....

Re: Covering random songs from the archive

To be clear, I used a randomizer to pick it. Same as what the sfjukebox random function does. "Choose" was a poor choice of word on my part.

Re: Songfight Live 2022 IRL Interest Poll

Honestly the expiration of in-flight mask mandates doesn't make a difference to me. Masks don't completely stop transmission, they just cut down on it, and being stuck in an airplane for multiple hours with someone who's sick is gonna get you infected, mask or not. For me it's all about case rates a...

Re: Inadvertent Duplicate Band Name

Other examples of duplicated band names within Song Fight have been Feldspar and <3. Outside of Song Fight!, band names get duplicated all the damn time. So many people have released music as “Sockpuppet” now, which is supremely annoying because I did a thorough diligent search to make sure the name...

Re: Inadvertent Duplicate Band Name

For those keeping score, Escapegoat was me and Patrick Clayton. One of the first email-based song collaborations to happen in Song Fight!, I think. When we submitted the song the mp3 that got posted was corrupted so nobody could hear it for the vote. Oh well.
