Re: Nancy Pelosi For President! (Two Hits Reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - I really like the verse (and middle 8), I'm not crazy about the chorus. The mix of fuzzy guitars and dreamy electric piano works really well and there's some excellent vocal harmony, but when the jerky rhythm kicks in for the chorus it loses me for some reason. Are there han...

Also Vom I can't believe you only sent me a link to their Bandcamp when you were mentioning the Russian synthpop song before, that video is INCREDIBLE and all of those guys are my new style icon. (Well, except the bassist who looks like he's wearing a Patagonia fleece. But all the other guys and pa...

Excellent work once again posting that just in time for me to think "god, I have about 75 minutes where I do not know what to do with myself before dinner". Good to hear Cybronica in on the action, the vocal coaching stuff was interesting! I believe owl is singing through a cold at the moment but al...

Re: New Music Friday - 4/12/19

I listened to Emily Reo's new album, which is a pretty good set of slightly strange pop songs, although the production is a bit too reverb-heavy for me.

Definitely checking out the Bibio album when I get a chance, I've really enjoyed some of his stuff in the past.

Re: Don't forget to write some notes. You know... (Whichever Whenever Reviews)

If you have time and the inclination (don't feel obliged) I'd love more input on the "muddy" bits. Where you hear it etc., Of course, if you're like me, you probably won't have the time. But if you do... I guess mostly I just want the vocals to be a bit clearer in the mix, I'm not sure if maybe tha...

Re: Don't forget to write some notes. You know... (Whichever Whenever Reviews)

Not actually listening while writing so apologies for any inaccuracies, but I have listened to them all three or four times. Berkeley Social Scene - this is definitely the handclappiest song in a bunch of pretty handclappy songs, and for that I... erm... applaud you. I have some issues with the mix,...

Re: No escape from the reality of (Is This Real Life Reviews)

Vowl Sounds – Backing vox are a bit too loud – they jump out and distract. Some of the panned left/right backing vocals are a bit overwhelmingly loud. I checked this mix on three different sets of speakers and my recording headphones before submitting it and it sounded fine on all of them, but as s...

Re: New Music Friday - 3/22/19

I moved on to the new Lambchop album which has a surprising amount of autotuney / vocodey vocal FX! But in a good way! I'll definitely be returning to this one.

Re: No escape from the reality of (Is This Real Life Reviews)

Excellent fight! Really enjoyed most of these tracks, but to be more specific: Tim Hinkle - your bassy vocals sound great (and suitably operatic) here and I really like the quick mandolin (?) picking. The song overall is enjoyable but quite low-key, I feel like in an opera it would be setting up the...

Re: New Music Friday - 3/22/19

I checked out the new Apparat album. I really love one that he did a few years ago, 'Walls', but this new one felt a little one-note, and that one-note is "relentlessly dour" so... I think that's a thumbs down from me.

Re: A support group for (The Dream Crusher Reviews)

Just listened to the drumless version and I think it does sound better for this song. The timing issues are less obvious and it really puts the focus on the lyrics, which are some of my favourites.

Re: A support group for (The Dream Crusher Reviews)

Excellent podcast, it was really interesting to hear some of the behind-the-scenes stuff (about Song Fight and BSS) from Sam. Also excellent work on posting it just before I left work for the day so I could play (some of) it in the car on the way home! Following your more in-depth investigation, I r...
