Re: Darling, You're Strange

(Vom Vorton) darling you're strange but don’t be a stranger ignore all the lies of the guys you despise they just want to change you darling you’re strange but that isn’t a bad thing you shouldn’t take the remarks that they make turn it into a sad thing and all these feelings are true I will always ...

Re: But in all seriousness... (Zero Gravity reviews)

Vom Vorton - Your instrumental performance is top-notch. Are those drums live or sampled? If live, they’re really well-mic’ed; if samples, they’re really well-sequenced. Your voice is pretty darn good, though some of the high notes (e.g. on “poor sound quality”) are a little squiggly. The lyrics fe...

Re: But in all seriousness... (Zero Gravity reviews)

Friends of Olaf - I really like the spoken-word-and-chugging-guitars vibe. The vocals remind me of Slint, but the music has more of a punk edge. The mix feels a little odd, maybe a bit over-compressed? But not enough to spoil my enjoyment, this was cool. Micah Sommersmith - really gorgeous! Lovely p...

Re: Floating away in the (Zero Gravity prefight)

I totally missed the Nocturne bonus challenge until after I'd finished my song, but hopefully I accidentally crammed some subliminal nocturne vibes in there without realising. Under all the guitars and synths. Somewhere.

Zero Gravity

I was on the waitlist to be weightless Til my name came up last year And they gave me a day’s training And then sent me way up here As I pulled clear of the atmosphere the vacuum swallowed me I guess the air lock is not a despair lock Because darkness followed me Though I complete all my tasks and f...

Re: It Ain't Plato's (The People's Republic Reviews)

Pigfarmer Jr. - solid riffage, and it works surprisingly well with the antiquated language, but it does feel a bit rushed. A fine listen, but not one of your best. Ken’s Super Duper Band n’ Stuff - I’m torn between loving the stripped down arrangement (the chord sequence remind me a little of Pants ...

Re: And Florida, and the islands, and... (Pray For Texas reviews)

Pigfarmer Jr. - agreed with lichenthroat, this is a really good one. Really propulsive and melodic, and I really like the guitar and vocal tone / FX you've used. Dimetrodon - even as a Texas know-nothing, some of your lyrical references made me smile - you've done a good job of making it a compellin...

WreckdoM - really fun production, I like the squeaky synth in the intro, it sounds like a cartoon character talking on the phone. Interesting storytelling and plenty of great sounds going on!

Re: *Hits The Snooze Button* (It Was Incredible To Be There Reviews)

Silver Sack Gorilla - hahaha, amazing! What a way to start. The surf guitars and organs sound wonderful and I love those tom rolls. The vocal gets a bit drowned maybe but I dunno if that’s intentional - that would be my only critique anyway, this is rad. JB & Hugo - extremely charming and retro:...

Re: Put Lipstick On A Pig and (Kiss It All Goodbye Reviews)

Praise Muzak - love the instrumentation, really unusual. I can’t quite place what this reminds me of - maybe Bright Eyes? But the vocals make me think of Modest Mouse. Anyway I thought this was pretty cool. Dark Side of the Son - congrats on the win last time out! I liked the lyrics in this one (the...

Re: One last dance (Before the Music is Over reviews)

The Overambitious - the pitch-shifted vocal is cool at the start but I think it’s a bit overused over the course of the whole song. Killer musical touches as usual - I like how you integrate the guitar sounds into the electronics. The built where it builds up to the shouted line is really effective....

Re: http://nurein.songlander.com error

I get the same issue in Chrome, but there's a little icon on the right of the URL bar that I can click on to "load unsafe scripts", and it then works properly. Looks like the issue is due to the page using http:// rather than the secure https:// when it loads scripts, which I guess modern ...

Re: Dredging Up Some (From The Depths Reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - BSS songs always seem to grow on me. In my review of Forest Full of Graves I said I didn’t like the chorus that much, but by the end of the week I had it solidly stuck in my head for a couple of days! I’m already liking this one more on a second listen, that main riff is a re...

Re: We Visited Some Reviews (We Visited A Forest Full Of Graves)

Deadnettlez - the first half of this is a bit too busy / muddy for me to really get a handle on, but when it spaces out a bit later on it sounds really cool - I like that mournful vocal-trumpet thing you’ve got going on. Bone Uppercut - pretty atmospheric instrumental, fits the title well. Can’t say...

Re: Circle of Titles VII

Heh. I submitted "Glacier" as my title because my wife and son and I were just about to leave for nine days of hiking in GNP and I thought the word gave a writer a lot of different ways to go. Who would have thought there would be another song that perfectly fits my suggestion? And I subm...

Re: A rooftop chase and then (Oh No, Vertigo! reviews)

Pigfarmer Jr - love those crunchy riffs! The creative use of echo really fits the theme well. Johnny Cashpoint - probably my favourite that I’ve heard from you, the music in particular is ridiculously charming. The lyrics are really clever and fun, too. Vom Vorton - this is me. Really pleased with t...
