(Vom Vorton) we crossed the lines, never expected that when all life became connected the links made across social media would be a foul encyclopedia of how not to treat each other how to stifle, how to smother this catalogue of folks I met was less address book, more skynet and you… you don’t have ...

Re: An Ellipsis is a series of... (Dot Dot Dot Reviews)

BSS - this is energetic and sounds like it would be great live, but I'm not that into the shouty vocal style so it doesn't quite hit that BSS sweet spot for me. The super-melodic guitar solo is great, though. Bombernaughts - absolutely love this one. The drum beat has a great swing to it, the synths...

Re: You won't appreciate a kind review (Until It Happens To You reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - the combination of the crunchy guitars and that brassy synth really works for me. Interesting structure too, with the early guitar solo and the bit where the bass takes over. I dig the angry-lyrics upbeat-melody combo too. Dark Side of the Son - a dreamy late-60s / early-70s ...

Re: Favorite Album of 2017?

I never really got into Cerulean or Obsidian - I liked the production, but they were a bit too dark for my liking, or something. That hyper-emotional synthpop sound he has shifted towards with Romaplasm is much more my kinda thing.

Re: (Don't be a) Lazy Boy (or girl and do your) Reviews

Berkeley Social Scene - I suspected I might vote for this one after the Thin Lizzy-style harmonised guitar solo, but I was sure when the synth solo kicked in. Really great stuff. James Owens - I’m never hugely into this slow boogie style of music but I love the lyrics and got a big laugh out of your...

Until it Happens to You

(Vom Vorton) you won’t believe it’s true until it happens to you you’ve heard there’s such a thing as laughter but you try to stay objective when you can because you’d rather admit defeat after then jump in head first without any plan and you’ve heard the world is full of beauty and they say that “l...

I was too lazy for Lazy Boy but I've got something mostly recorded for this one. Will hopefully get it finished up and submitted tomorrow!

Re: Don't Have a Cow, Pig, Goat or... (Our Forfeited Friends Reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - I like the guitar crunch, you’ve nailed that classic rock punchiness again, but the vocal melody and guitar solo follow really meandering paths in this one, which doesn’t really do it for me. Dark Side of the Son - definitely agreed on the Magnetic Fields vibe, at least until...

OK, here are some songs. I should probably note that if this slips later than January I'll struggle to participate, but I'm definitely up for it otherwise. Re: Most anticipated albums of 2018?

My most anticipated album of 2017 was 'Matchy Matchy' by The Ballet, which didn't end up coming out in 2017, so I guess I'll roll that one over to this year! Hopefully it's just delayed rather than cancelled, they don't have much of a social media presence so it's hard to know... Their last album, '...

Re: Kong: Skull Island

I enjoyed it way more than I expected! John C. Reilly totally steals every scene once he turns up. I actually got a bit emotional about the way his story ends, which I was not expecting from a monster movie.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I just saw it today. One of the better ones, I thought. Definitely a few scenes that made me roll my eyes a little but the action is great, and I really like the characters in this new trilogy so I'm generally happy to spend more time with them. I've never been a major Star Wars fan but I had a blas...

I still listen to albums! My favourite from 2017 was Romaplasm by Baths.

Re: Two Bits To Pay The (Toll of the Inferno Reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - the guitars have a nice crunch to them, the melody is strong and there’s a really strong 70s classic rock vibe to this one. Excellent stuff, I particularly enjoyed how it flows into that really melodic solo and the catchy lead guitar work over the outro. You’ve even got some ...
