Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Three: "Co-Pilot"

I finally got a chance to listen to the copilot songs! I don’t have time this week to do reviews, but just wanted to say I loved that this challenge let us hear the core of everyone’s song writing without the facade of the voice we are used to hearing. People talk about this sometimes becoming a “pr...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Two: "The Numbers Don't Lie"

Reviews done as first impressions during the listen party, so everything is listened in Mono and I haven’t read the lyrics. I quite enjoyed this batch, and look forward to hearing these in stereo as i listen to them this week. BSS: I like that pre and then how the melody moves in the chorus! That up...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Two: "The Numbers Don't Lie"

Really excited to hear everyone’s songs tonight. I got mine in through sheer force of will an a Sunday wiped of any other plans because that’s the only day I had available to work on it. Chorus progression is the refrain, F G Em Am, and I have to say I had a lot of fun working with how this progress...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round 2 - The Numbers Don't Lie

The Numbers Don’t Lie By Cybronica The marketing manager at my last job once told me we can make the data fit to whatever story we want to tell prospective clients. It was meant to be a lesson in finding interesting or previously over-looked insights in a massive excel spreadsheet of data points, bu...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round 1 - Blind Spot

Blind Spot By Cybronica This song is dedicated to the haters. Challenge met by copious use of tambourine. You think that you’ve already won Dont you know this race, it ain’t done Don’t count me out just cause you can’t see me One blink- that is all it will take For you to realize your mistake You wo...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Zero: "Sink or Swim"

NE 18 r0 Reviews! Enjoy! In order of the lyric thread: Lowest bitter I love the 80s synth pop vibe. The rhythmic panning on the boomwhacker is ear candy. Oooh so is that panning at the very end. I would have liked more of that! Your lyrics are really great (love the dog paddle/dog tired/doggedly lin...

I just had a moment to post a Cybronica song that came in just after I'd posted the fight.
Thank you, Lunkhead!! I’ll be knocking out some reviews soon, too. Quite enjoying this crop of songs. :)

Stopping by to give some reviews. I took a quiet few minutes to enjoy these songs- all of them were ones I’d gladly listen to again, thought these reviews are after one go through each. Good job gang; thanks for making great music! Paco: really fun groove. What a relatable topic! I love how singable...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

Have some quick reviews, why not. Mandibles - vocal melody in the chorus really reminds me of "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes, which is unexpected. I like the dreamy synths and oohs that fill out the mix around the piano, and the soft harmonies when the "strawberry moon" section b...

June moon Mandibles Shadow This song is about the marvelous merits of reading and writing escapist fiction. In this case, the narrator takes her inspiration from the early summer moon. Regarding the challenge, there are no perfect end rhymes; however I did endeavor to make the end of each verse rhym...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

FINALLY finished the mandibles lyric…. This was probably the most difficult lyric I’ve ever done and it’s just a shadow! Probably didn’t help that I decided to add perfect rhymes at the start of the next line… At least we have a whole ~24 hours to record and mix the durn thing!

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

This also depends on accent as well. My Australian pronunciation of “again” is chameleon like depending on the context/emphasis of the sentence, and often rhymes with rain. This is a good point! I suppose a less American-centric way to put it is I would classify the rhymes phonetically, not visuall...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

Well bugger - I just re-read my lyrics and looked at the whole song (instead of just looking at a single verse at a time) and I realised that the first two lines of each verse repeat the same last words. But that could be done for poetic emphasis! I do stuff like that all the time - would hate for ...
