Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round Zero - Sink or Swim

Welcome to episode 264 of my obsession with 17th century witch trials! I had planned to try to write some funkier stuff this year but the link between the crops failing when the seasons change and the swimming of witches was too much for me to resist. Sink or Swim by chewmeupspitmeout Snowflakes fel...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Six "Summer Robot"

Wowzers and I thought the last round was tough to rank! I've gotta say, absolutely everyone nailed the challenge and it's a real shame that only two could go through as I think any of you would've been worthy finalists. Vom Vorton I saw your admission of accidental Gruff Rhys plagiarism but what thi...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Five "Novel"

Well, this was a ridiculously difficult round to judge! I feel like every song would've sailed through the earlier rounds and the gap between them all is absolutely wafer thin. Elks of the Economy I've not really got a great deal of criticism to level at this song other than I feel like the intro mi...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

Extr-ee! Extr-ee! Read all about it! Dan pulls his finger out and actually finishes writing some reviews I think this was comfortably the hardest round to judge,as it feels like everyone is really raising their game now. This is borne out in every judge picking someone different for their top spot....

While you're all waiting for last minute deliberations to be concluded, here are some reviews for you. Sorry I've been so rubbish as getting these out. Also, the name of my shadow is incorrectly displayed. It should be chewmeupspitmeout, as opposed to in separate words/capitalised.

June Moon by chewmeupspitmeout (shadow) I've been away/busy with work the last few weeks but it's calming down now, so I thought I'd actually do a shadow! Internal rhymes are fine in my book and I definitely think you can repeat sections etc as I'm way more interested in hearing cool songs than pouring over lyrics hunting for a word that rhymes with a line two verses ago! :D

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Zero "Friday the 13th"

I feel like this challenge ended up being a bit hit or miss in terms of actually hitting the brief but there were definitely some standouts. To echo furrypedro's thoughts in his reviews, there were quite a lot of very literal lyrics that lacked that bit of finesse that's needed for truly poetic lyri...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Four "Waiting For The Sun To Fall"

I believe the judges will be requiring us to build a Neolithic circular enclosure for this round. I have already begun work on mine - the distinctive ambience it creates should propel me to an easy victory. Wait, so we're not writing songs about a circular piece of steel, as part of an armour harne...
