Re: Not much to do but (Sitting In The Life Boat reviews)

add : The vocals on this track are wonderful. I loved how tender they, especially when that 2nd part kicks in. The real star of the show in this for me was that synth in the chorus, it really stands out in the track and helps delivers that hook line. I'm not overly keen on the solo, it sounded good...

Re: After the death car (Sitting In The Life Boat prefight)

I'm in, decided to go for a Mumford and Sons kind of thing, not sure why as I'm not really a fan of the band :?. I recorded 3 acoustic guitar + vox takes one after the other and was going to neaten it out and slap some fake drums and stuff on but decided against because I really like the live kind o...

Re: Sitting in the Life Boat

see-man-ski not so long ago you would say to me focus on where you're heading not your misery I took that advice straight to heart but I just couldn't get past the start I'm a whisper in the breeze that's been heading out to sea sitting in a lifeboat I'm the reason that you can't believe in all tha...

Re: OK partner, (Let’s Call It A Draw prefight)

I'm in (I nearly wasn't). I'm in the UK and saw the date and thought great 9th September I've got bags of time. I checked this morning and before I had a moment thinking 9th January that's odd, I twigged. So I quickly finished it off in my lunch break and chucked in a stylophone solo to try and meet...

Re: No worries, it's all... (Good Trouble reviews)

Balance Lost : Whenever I see your name I know I'm in for a treat. The tone on those guitars is great and I really really really liked that lead part in the chorus. The I/you balance in the lyrics is neat and the feeling I got when listening was that someone had a wrong doing on them and you are ac...

Re: No worries, it's all... (Good Trouble reviews)

Wow, that's a lot of tunes this week. Slowly working my way through the reviews, I've had a few listens whilst walking and all of the tracks are really good. I'll put my words of non-wisdom up once I've gone through whilst jotting down random thoughts as I listen. The tracks that really stood out fo...

I'm in and I'm trying my hand at synthwave (it seemed apt for the challenge), probably failed miserably but we shall see.

Re: Last warning: (Please Scream Inside Your Heart reviews)

So, I thought I would give this reviewing thing a crack. I always feel a bit out of my depth doing this kind of thing, but now I am thinking if you don't try, you never know. So here goes .... Brown Word and the Big Whine : This was obviously a protest song looking at the lyrics and at first I thoug...

Finally, I know really late, sorry :( got around to listening to your podcast. FYI, Grumpy Mike you are right and my name is Mike Szymanski, I am really lazy when coming up with aliases.

Thanks for your constructive critism as always. :)

Re: Nur Ein XV Final Round "Pistols At Dawn"

Yay Congrats Jon Eric :) Who'd have thought it, considering after most rounds you were stating this is my last round. Well done to Cavedwellers as they were both great songs worthy of the victory. It's been a great experience for me, thanks for all the love sent my way and the constructive criticism...

Re: Nur Ein XV Final Round "Pistols At Dawn"

I wonder how many of the Round 0 eliminees will remember to vote this year. They get a reminder email right? Glad I just had a quick skim through the forums, I didn't know about this. Strictly speaking I was a round 0 eliminee but came back from the dead. Anyway, I digress. How does this work? I'm ...

Well, I'm stunned and humbled.

But also, I'm never doing a synthpop anthem on a one-week deadline, ever again. That was very time consuming and exhausting.

Cavedwellers, I will see you at the dueling ground.

NUR EIN!!!!!!!
Congrats Jon, yours was also my favourite song of this round.

See-man-ski: +1000 for everything leading up to that acoustic break and then -800 for that acoustic break.
What I took from this, I should definitely do more acoustic breaks :P

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Six "Homestretch"

My first instinct for this was to think, what would tool do? I then realised that I only had 5 days and not 5 years to write a track, so slapped a 3/4 riff under a 6/4 riff and hoped for the best. I think it turned out ok, not particularly happy with my vocals in parts but sod it, it is a song and a...

Re: NUR EIN XV - Homestretch

Homestretch (shadow) by see-man-ski I took a completely different approach to my songwriting for this. I have been watching a music theory for electronic musicians on udemy, just because why not. So, instead of finding a beat and chucking a tonne of guitars on it I created everything using the pian...
