Re: Circle of Titles 2022

Dark Tourist Night Sky You stood at my door like an accident Smelling strong of weed and peppermint, oh baby You wore those old school Five Oh Ones A little hat to shade your eyes As you cried and told me lies Of course, I let you in It’s you again the dark tourist Here to see me at your worst You ...

I'll post mine, too.

Here's "Neither Here Nor There."

Hey, I’ve done the first half of that drive many times! Grew up in Kingman (gotta dispute the “oasis” characterization) and live in NorCal now, so everything from 395 to Flagstaff is very familiar.

Comrades! Seize the means of distribution!

This is Dark Tourist, by Night Sky. A bit more stripped down than phlub’s.

Re: Circle of Titles 2022

I turned in something for Night Sky. We went a little dark with our title, but both of our options were dark, so we leaned in and tried to work some stuff out. Hope it's not too heavy for the title-giver! Steve is not to blame for the rather rudimentary drums.

Re: We met, became friends and then (Like Turned To Love reviews)

Knight Skye - Okay, this vocoder business actually works great for the genre. Maybe cause I’ve been jamming a lot of Roger and Zapp lately, but I’m all about it. Opening groove makes me expect some “doot-doot-doodoos, flyyyy like an eagle!” coming in. But the funk here is infectious. And I seriousl...

Re: We met, became friends and then (Like Turned To Love reviews)

Night Sky : 70s jazzy funk vibes. This kicks off with a nice arrangement of e-piano, organ and choppy guitar, though I think maybe a less-is-more approach with the latter may have worked better. Interesting choice with the vocoder vocals - the jury’s out on that. Noted the optional challenge of syn...

Re: We met, became friends and then (Like Turned To Love reviews)

Great fight, everyone. I’m hearing a lot of boxiness/excess reverb, but that may be my listening situation or my general aversion to too much reverb. So if I’m the only one who says things are boxy/reverby, please factor that in. I took a pause to listen to some reference tracks and I don’t think it...

Night Sky is out. We didn’t manage to come up with anything I could turn into a song.
Such as shame :(

but... clouds & silver linings... does this mean you're a sax-worker for hire for the duration of Nur Ein?
Solos or sectionals?

I'm definitely less inclined to get on a plane, which for me means if it's a west coast affair, I remain interested, but still a little wary. And of course, odds are the west coast will be on fire, so who knows? Edit to add, what if we did a couple regional SFL's that, to build on jack's idea, conne...

A little late to the party with my reviews, but not too late. Thanks to all who have reviewed so far. I have more mix notes than I usually would, because I feel like I'm starting to develop a better ear for these sorts of things. But of course I could be wrong, and if so, sorry about that. Night Sky: I wasn't quite sure to make of this one, but I did learn something: I thought CRT was cathode ray tube, but turns out it's critical race theory. Pardon my ignorance, but could this be like a protest song sung at a MAGA rally? If so, I kind of like the subversion. Plus, the whistling is g...
