Re: Circle of Titles 2021

So I feel to prevent this becoming dead, here's some songs for my *lucky* recipient - No offence intended to Jon Eric, obviously, but we should move this along. If you have webspace, post them here - if not, then send them to me, I'll host them ... https://www.johnnycashpoint.com/509021/jc_evidence....

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round One "Pareidolia"

So my "real" review for Lichen throat's shadow, purely because I feel bad about my random "Eurovision" horribleness towards him: Ah you've managed to hit my two of my "absolute Nos" - I hate songs about singing about the process of singing, and I despise songs about feeling sorry for yourself . I do...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Zero "Semiprecious"

So my 'real' review for Grumpy Mike: I have to say I don't like it very much. It starts of as a demo for Britney / Mariah Carey / Miley Cyrus in their sexy adult phase, and that's fine, but you can't help bringing in the 90s rock and I am losing interest. As others have said, it's old school Grumpy ...

I think my band covering sos might not meet the spirit of Hxaro.
I think that would be totally in the spirit of Hxaro.

Re: Goodbye Blue Lang

Ah shit, this can't be true, can it? Breaks my heart ... his "feathers" remains my favourite SF entry so far(though he hated his vocal) and a "Beast" is right. He was my hero, and i never got the chance to tell him that in person

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Two "Drag Me Around"

(Crown Shy) - You see, this is why we shouldn't have immunity at all, as it means a song as good as this kind of falls by the wayside. I love the Laurie Anderson-esque Spoken Word verses and the chorus is fantastic. Best song (not) in the fight and would have voted accordingly if I could. j$ it loo...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Two "Drag Me Around"

Well, that's adorable. You never said 1890s! I love subpar Bertolt Brecht pastiches and you nailed it. I don't know if this is sarcasm or not, but I sincerely thank you for having more than "I forgot to listen to this song and now I forgot I listened to this song". FWIW I did have a post-grunge son...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Two "Drag Me Around"

W.A.I.L. I.A.A.C. 1+1+5+ ... Balance Lost - Pretty but bland. I didn't mind it at all. Berkeley Social Scene - like the vaguely post-punk direction. Can't decide whether it's pretty catchy or slightly clunky. Both, probably. Brown Word and the Big Whine Hmm, not so keen on the verses (though I like ...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round One "Pareidolia"

Damn I hate this, except for that guitar riff at the beginning. Sorry! I don't have much of use to say. Based on the tremendously indulgent lyric, neither do you :) I am sure we will be coming a cropper for another six rounds, so feel free to ignore what I write! Bien sur! It's just a stylistic dif...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round One "Pareidolia"

Crown Shy - Like all the songs I've heard so far, the impression i'm getting is the use of field recording has nothing to do with the song that follows it. That's by the by - this is undeniably pretty. Really lovely and I do like the way the FR turns up through the song (even though it doesn't add ...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round One "Pareidolia"

W.A.I.L. I.A.A.C. I was hoping for more urban field recordings getting made and used. What I got was far too many bird sounds :( Anyway, I use "F.R." often below as I got bored of writing field recording over and again. Also there was an incident (described below in my review of Grumpy old Mike's so...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round One "Pareidolia"

I don't care about that! It was France losing out to Italy in the general public vote (and therefore the results) despite France being a much better song than the Italian monstrosity! I'm over it now. :)
