Re: How long will it take to write reviews (via Sunderland)?

@paco: thanks! For the record, there's no keyboard on the verses, only heavily effected & volume-pedaled guitar (some of it coming from an acoustic 12-string) @other kind comments: Thanks! Yeah, the whole thing's a bit ramshackle, and I can hear it in my head about 20 times better than it is rec...

Re: Don't Bore Us With Your Boron Rodviews. (Boron Rod Reviews)

@BBABM: Haha, funny enough, this is the song I've spent the most time on, lyric-wise, in the past few songfights. I usually just sing whatever comes to me, or write up nonsensical but cool-sounding lyrics right before recording, but this one actually has a concept, lyrics, and a narrative arc to it....

Re: Don't Bore Us With Your Boron Rodviews. (Boron Rod Reviews)

Reist: iPhone microphone perched (somewhat precariously) in between an amp and my mouth. Guitar tuned to open tuning, all B notes. So yes, the chords seem a little simple because they are mostly composed of one or two notes.  I'd say it's probably more accurate to say the chords follow the melody- t...

Re: How long will it take to write reviews (via Sunderland)?

Jon: I've had the chorus of your song stuck in my head for the past few days, so I think I'm probably gonna have to put in a vote for you, too. And I just listened to every song once, so by that dubious logic, yours is the catchiest of all!

Re: Spare the Rod...(Boron pre-fight)

I have an idea, as usual mostly going off the sound of the word rather than the meaning...

Should we look down on people who just use it as a pun for the word "boring"? Seems like the most obvious one to me.

Re: How long will it take to write reviews (via Sunderland)?

To throw my cents in about the instrumental deal, it works when it's appropriate. Here, it seemed to fit tonally. Na style ja Nice beats and tones Rap a little lackluster but kind of endearing Chorus is good, though- singing works  I like the instruments at the end, too. Yeah, I like the idea of the...

Re: How long will it take to write reviews (via Sunderland)?

Best produced entry: nasty (REVOKED - You submitted MONO? The heck, dude.) I haven't listened to anything yet, but come on. My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" was in mono. And countless other classics, from Beatles on up. Just because you can use two channels doesn't mean you should. That sai...

Re: You gotta do the cooking by the book (Cakes Reviews)

Historyman - narrowly misses being classified as not a song by me, but it is so close as to be effectively not a song. What instrument are you playing? The chord aesthetic is interesting, but it sounds terrible. Fender Strat, played acoustically. Alternate tuning: 5 strings, B Bb B Bb B. Capo on se...

Re: You gotta do the cooking by the book (Cakes Reviews)

Definitely review! No such thing as a wrong opinion- we want to know how our song came off. My goal, at least, is good, enjoyable songwriting, and you don't need any qualification to say whether you enjoy something. Write anything from simple "I liked it" to general impressions while liste...

Re: You gotta do the cooking by the book (Cakes Reviews)

Songfight reviews: cakes Most of the stuff was quite good! My pet peeve with this kind of title is really obvious lyrics, like, for example, listing cakes in a title called "cake"- be a little more creative, people! Still, most people put their own spins on them, and were pretty good. Just...

Re: here's lookin' at you, squid (looking at the sea reviews)

Songfight Reviews All written after one listen- I'll try to listen to them each a few more times to see if I can offer more in-depth critique. I'm impressed in general with all of them, though! Heine Lyrics a little hackneyed. Chorus rocks pretty well Interlude around 3:30 calm, like the sea, but a ...

I wonder.. how long will Kid Cruiser keep on rapin'? If there's any justice, Kid Cruiser will put this in his signature. naw dawg naw. I actually like this review, mainly because I'm imagining Randy Jackson saying it. Iqballers - The recording of the guitar is way too soft, but I like the melody of...

Ha. Yeah, just realized that I submitted a week early. I thought that I'd gotten it in just the nick of time. Well, maybe I'll be able to clean up my incredibly poor recording a little.

Re: I'm crushing your head (A Problem of Perspective Reviews)

So here’s the deal: I listen to each song twice, in the order it was presented to me by the randomization algorithm on the main page. I take notes while I type, occasionally pausing the song if I need to focus on a sentence or something. Then I turn my notes into sentences, largely by adding “I” to ...

Re: I'm crushing your head (A Problem of Perspective Reviews)

Hi everyone, apologies for lack of reviews so far. Not that it's an excuse, but I got fired this week and I've been scrambling to get back on my feet. (Incidentally, I know there's probably another thread for this, but if anybody has any connections to production jobs in the Rhode Island/Mass area, ...

1. Its embarrassing singing s loud when your family is downstairs xP. When I told my voice teacher* I was embarrassed to sing with roommates around, she told me she had a student who practiced singing in his basement and his brothers rolled trashcans down the stairs at him. So just do it and fuck t...
