Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

This is a cool challenge because it has me creating something quite unlike my usual tracks. This makes me happy to read! Can't speak for all the judges, but this is precisely the kind of outcome I was hoping for. Something that takes you a little outside your comfort zone, and forces you to conside...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round One "The Handbook"

Micah Sommersmith ... Your vocals sound super crispy in the mix when you're hitting S sounds, and not in a good way. Thanks for the review! I struggled a lot trying to tame the S sounds in my vocals on this entry - sometimes it's an issue when I'm recording, sometimes it's not, so I'm not sure how ...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

Where did we land with percussive mouth sounds? I’m taking this challenge to mean as many vocal tracks as you like, but only two instrumental tracks. I figure body percussion is its own instrument, but What about percussive vocal takes? If any clarification is forthcoming, this would be useful to m...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round One "The Handbook"

I am genuinely impressed. Nearly everyone had better sounding vocals this week across the board. I listened to all of these songs in the background as I worked at the day job on Monday, and then I sat down after work to give more thorough listens. Full disclosure - The bottom of the pack wasn't near...

I mean, obviously Damian brought the goat for his pet chupacabra
Yeah, that's fair. It is his service animal, I think.

A goat counts as an instrument right?
Probably depends on how you play it.
And how much you suck
Ha! Yes! There is that?

On that note: Mo - Who brought a goat here for the Chupacabra to suck between the acts?

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

Well, I guess I'll be "that guy" this time... Where do the judges land on the idea of overdubbing our two instruments? If I play three or four separate parts looped on the same physical guitar, is that kosher? And what about layered vocals? Four part harmony, etc? Also, do handclaps, finger snaps, ...

Everything is here: Superb use of dynamics, exciting changes, great melody, catchy chorus hook, good visual ...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"

Hi all, I have seven more reviews left to write, but I should be able to turn in my rankings on time. I am using a scoring system I have used in the past when I have been a judge for similar competitions. It helps me to place the songs in "buckets" where I can narrow down my choices based on prefere...

Re: Do you realize there are (Something's Wrong Reviews)

Glenn Case : Cool intro and guitars. I wasn't expecting this. Kind of a throwback vocal. It reminds me slightly of a Phil Collins 80's vocal (from the mix, not the quality/sound/performanc) or maybe a little Steely Dan? I'm not sure those are fair to you, but it's cool. I like the phrasing on the c...

Re: Turn left by the three legged dog (Right Town, Wrong Address Reviews)

Your voice reminds me of a band called The Odds. Cool. Sweet little pop song - I dig it. 1. Thank you! 2. Odds is one of my favorite bands. 3. I asked Craig Northey of Odds if he would pretty please sing and play on my song "Pencil Me In" when I re-recorded it for my "Throw Money" album and he DID!...

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Six "You Too"

Scooby and Scrappy? Well, let's look at some of the information surrounding your theory. Timeline: 1. The original Scooby Doo cartoon came out in 1969 2. Scrappy Doo was introduced about a decade later in 1979. 3. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo debuted in 1988 about a decade later. This seems to indicate a...

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Six "You Too"

Haha, thanks? This Paul McCartney guy wrote some pretty good melodies, I guess . (I wonder who the dog next door in "You Too" is?) Yeah, he did okay. :) I am thinking it is more than one dog. I think someone let those dogs out. https://img.ifcdn.com/images/8d0d0778dae674226666af6bf55c3d4cc6ddc60c66...
