Re: Gnoosic

Interesting idea. Not sure if the dataset is too small or too polluted or what but I put in three bands I like and it fed me 7 bands I'd never heard of and 3 that I don't like. I checked a few of the ones I'd never heard of and none of them made me go "wow".

Re: My Life

My brother has been shopping for a new DJ mixer. He mentioned some models he was looking at. I looked them up, and I asked him, “why do you need so many channels?” It would seem that the golden ratio of turntables to microphones is no longer 2:1. For future generations, Beck may seem as anachronisti...

Space in filename in glennny's 'Until it Happens to You' entry

FYI there is a space in the filename for glennny's Until it Happens to You entry. It broke my downloader script and I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks something else too.

Re: My Life

Yesterday I had to give a talk at work because my boss was out of town and he asked me to fill in. His slides were titled as "A Primer". I used to have an English (the sort who would be offended to be called "British") coworker who insisted the proper pronunciation of "prime...

Re: My Life

So, I was playing my guitar yesterday and when I was done, I leaned it up against the side of the fireplace, too lazy to take it back upstairs. This morning the cat was sitting on the mantle and threw up on the guitar. I don't like changing strings and now my guitar smells funny.

RIP Pat DiNizio

Rest in peace, Pat DiNizio. Just heard that the Smithereens frontman died yesterday. You were a huge rock hero to teenage me.

Re: Flame On! (Flamethrower Reviews)

Chtonic Doom - Man this is great. I particularly enjoy where it really kicks in around the minute mark. My only complaint is that I want the drum samples to have more OOMPH. James Owens - I would have enjoyed another verse or two. Maybe an escalation of the absurdity? Burn more things. A breakdown ...

Re: Tom Petty Coverfight

Man. Always sad to hear about a music icon passing, but this one hit me harder than most. I'm going through a really tough time right now personally and Mr. Petty's music really resonates right now. Rest in peace, Tom. A friend and I did a cover of "Stop Draggin My Heard Around" just after...

Restoring a 1930s polyphonic synthesizer

Containing 163 vacuum tubes and over 1,000 custom capacitors, the Novachord weighed nearly 500 pounds and was roughly the size of two spinet pianos.

Oooo, excited for this.

The kids (9 and 11) are already bantering around zany 9- and 11-year-old ideas. Apologies for any excessive zaniness that may result.

If I had been thinking I would have entered a sawtooth-heavy buzzy synth number as The Tragically Hip Replacements.

But thinking is not my strong suit.
