Re: Gonna be one hell of a ride (Please Buckle Up reviews)

Blind Mime Ensemble : I dunno how you pulled this off dude, but it's hella fun. There's a tendency for AI vocals to have a stereo effect that pops in and out rather than being very consistent, so it does make me think the lead vocals are genAI. I kind of suspect a lot of this is AI generated-- but ...

Re: Gonna be one hell of a ride (Please Buckle Up reviews)

Yaks of Industry Love this. Sounds like I stumbled on an old cassette album recorded on a Tascam Porta One and its triggering some serious deja vu for me. I'm stuck in a time warp waiting for a promised third album at the end of 2023. Will 2024 deliver us or remain Yakless? Berkeley Social Scene Sin...

Please Buckle Up

Did they tell you This'll be one wild ride It's inevitably predetermined That our two world's collide Who'll take the driver's seat? We've got more lead than feet Buckle up, please buckle up It's now that our destinies meet Did they tell you This'll be one wild ride? Let's buckle up Please buckle up...

Re: She tells me but (I Never Know reviews)

Blind Mime Ensemble : This rules. Are the vocals the bit sampled from an old tape? There’s not a ton of epic pop around these parts, and I’m definitely here for it when it is. This is getting a vote and a download. I sample the beginning of https://archive.org/details/bakerallen/The+Sunrise+%26+Les...

Re: She tells me but (I Never Know reviews)

Ken's Super Duper Band 'n Stuff - This gives me a Jonathan Richman vibe that I really like a lot. The melody is sweet. I was thinking like Jack regarding the arrangement, but having the "band" full on gives it kind of an early 90's hometaper thing which also works for me. The solo is cool ...

Re: She tells me but (I Never Know reviews)

The Idiot King is always a favorite. The lyric can be read as a song by a cannibal. Love the instrumental middle break and the general wall of guitars throughout. I think Wink's track is a mighty impressive nod to OG progressive rock. So many cool ideas. Love how the leslie organ creeps into the mix...

I Never Know by Blind Mime Ensemble She came from circus folk Crazy talk, but nonetheless She left confetti in my bed You'd have to see her at her best, I guess She spoke in riddled tongues That licked the salt poured on my wounds Embracing chance and circumstance She always ends up dancing naked on...

I've made one with samples from a 40-year-old 4-track recording spun through AI with lyrics I wrote this morning.

PANALOPY - Another strong entry, this time pushing counter to the grain. I hope that was unintentionally innocent.
blindmime, I don't know what you are saying. what do you mean?
Sorry. Strike the last sentence. It was from a different review. My brain's a little rusty.

SONGFIGHT Lichen Throat - I like the post-industrial pop germanic devokraft. Keeps it interesting with the counter guitar (or whatever it is). Vocal works well with this for me the more times I repeat. Sly Eli - I love the pads and when you take it into the chorus, man, this is awesome. I loved this...

Re: What we need more of is (Scientific 7 reviews)

The Hortus Ortus song is my favorite. I like the guitar tone quite a lot.The vocal melody in the bridge lifts things up another notch. Cool guitar solo too. The guitar tone sounds a bit like an old Roland practice amp I have. I'm not exactly sure, but foobar may be hearing intonation issues. Maybe c...

Brad Sucks interview

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but there's an interview with Brad Sucks at GarageSpin.com that's pretty cool.

Frankie Big Face Interview

I don't know if I ever posted the published Frankie Big Face interview I did with songfight a couple years back. It's now found a home here: http://www.homemademusic.com Go to the menu under "MAGAZINE" and down to "Interviews". I'm looking for more people to write about and would...

Re: review reponse

I'm not a big fan of this kind of hard-panned guitar arrangement. I find it better if they capture more of the natural sound of the space between them while still being separate. I like the loose feel of the vocals. there seems to be a very split opinion of my panning; it's something new that i'm s...

Senza What kind of setup do you have? For this song, I used a BR-8 and a couple of 50 dollar mics . . . A little blue tube preamp and (possibly) a nice transparent compressor (RNC perhaps) would help quite a bit. Although the BR-8 could already have a preamp and compressor built in. Anyway, these t...

Ellis Island Stubby Phillips feat. Dr. Water I like the looseness of the performances and love the vocal and melody which evokes the past. I think the piano sound works well with the guitar as well. Good song full of possibilities. Father Bingo I like the melody and the guitar arrangment is really c...

Actually my first songfight was "Blue Signal" which used my playing real drums but run through tuareg software. Everything after that, up to and after "Effect," was real drums straight into a little mackie mixer (no compression or anything; 2 sm57 mics and something on the bass)....

NOTHING beats live drumming If it's well recorded, and if it fits with the genre. It's an absolute nightmare to record real drums properly. The snare and hat tend to clip and hiss, the kick either reduces to a click or else it booms, and it'll take all the microphones you've got. Playing drums is a...
