Re: What would you rather have?

Ah - is that the sort of trip BLT stands for? How about a mission to Mars instead? But only genetically peaceful people can join. We can take our leave and hop to the next planet once UV radiation has these genes mutate towards money-grabbing. This way we'll gradually find the perfect balance betwee...

Re: What would you rather have?

Hoblit, about my assumption: if an internet poll asks whether I prefer a Stegosaurus or a T-Rex, I'll pretend that it can give me those, rather than reply "Poll, I don't trust you to really have these in store". And "world peace" is not quite clear but I think there's some consen...

Re: What would you rather have?

What is world peace? Yeah it wasn't defined at all; but 'peace' is peace! It's this happy situation when you're not under siege. WP is that, for everyone. Even if it doesn't imply 'no tsunamis' and 'no illness' it minimally has 'no air raids' and 'no torturing child soldiers'. And the poll gives it...

Re: What vibe do you get from this passenger pigeon tune?

That's cool :) Though the animal sounds don't really carry a melody.

This plugin could maybe do that. Or the soundfonts here; unfortunately the links to demos are dead.

Re: What would you rather have?

[short version in angry red] Ugh, what a sad score. You $-choosers have no sense of perspective, or you're nuts in some other way. I don't believe in the likelihood of world peace either. But we're talking hypothetical here. The poll assumes you can choose it and get it. It's a once-in-a-life...

What a great crazy idea :)

Then the brain rears: "Trapped!"

So it goes! :?

I learned something from the one spectral plot they showed.

Re: What vibe do you get from this passenger pigeon tune?

Nice song, roymond, even if not exactly fun. Some muted duck quacks would fit in there I'd say, like a light hi-hat or snare*. The Abominominous version is good too. I didn't realise hat feather fashion had such an impact. Species going extinct happens , but it's ugly when it's for stupid reasons or...

What vibe do you get from this passenger pigeon tune?

Eating a baked potato and listening to John Herald's "Martha (Last of the Passenger Pigeons)". Lyrics & mp3 or CNA9NqGaIWw There's a way or two to pan this song but I don't care, I like it. (And it makes this potato taste okay because it isn't endangered.) I wonder how the song goes do...

Re: bends on wound strings = problems?

In the meantime I've been told by two people looking at my guitars I should change strings more often. This page also calls string winding coming off "a sure sign you are overdue for new strings". I guess that string would have held out for a while longer but not with the bending going on....

Re: bends on wound strings = problems?

Thanks for your input guys. That confirms it should not be a lost cause. The frets look smooth and the guitar was standard tuned. But I did bend a full tone up, hard work on the steel string. I'm still surpised by the abruptness of the breakdown, but so it must have been a mix of old string, sweat, ...

bends on wound strings = problems?

Hey kids, I've never used bends on the guitar much, but I was trying some in a tune on my steel-string acoustic. The bend is at the 10th fret on the (wound) G string. After half an hour or so of playing (involving no more than a couple dozen of these bends) the winding of the string is worn away com...

Re: Beijing Olympics

If you look at the number of medals per country per capita or for instance by GDP, the picture is very different. And at least as relevant.

One can always be proud to have a large amount of affluent brothers-in-nation with a normal proportion of them being good at sports, of course!

Re: Help! I want to learn the Harmonica...

Thanks for your input Jon. I made another fruitless attempt at bending and then a fruitful websearch: My harmonica has two (brass?) reeds per note, giving a tremolo effect. As this page explains very well, "bending down any note using both reeds is enormously difficult if not impossible since t...

As for Canada Dry and Ginger Ale, let's swap every second letter: to give us: Cingdr Dly and Ganaea Are.

GANAEA ARE a genus of Indochina cicadas, you can buy them on the Internet.

Anyone make a song called Cingdr Dly, and make it a good song?

I didn't know that. I was born on Dec 25th, so we're Earth brothers. Motörhead's Capricorn

Re: The Future of Music (not: of the Music Business)

I think the rock drum beat will be similar (but average tempo will be slower), but rockers will sing really funny. [etc.] Hehe... that's a specific and weird prediction. Slooow high(low)-pitched rock. With the same old base. Sounds interesting, but why? :p I figure one future thing that may happen:...
