Re: If we make it (Better Luck Next Year reviews)

Two listens doesn't seem to be enough to figure out the story, but it's about having an Australian friend? (Really? No didgeridoo sample after that delivery?) It was recorded at our annual weekend away, written about the one guy who couldn't make it this year. Yes, he's Australian. And Dane was dyi...

Re: If we make it (Better Luck Next Year reviews)

Hey, kids: Ill Cricket Crew got together for our annual guys’ weekend and recorded our Better Luck Next Year (our first SF entry as a group in 12 years!) on a beautiful deck overlooking Georgian Bay. I can’t imagine the other cottagers enjoyed it as much as we did. Dig that beautiful Canadian landsc...

Re: The Bad, The Ugly, and The (Good Trouble prefight)

I rarely post in the prefight, but this is important.

Me and my 8-year-old buddy Matthew are in — Blonde and Bald — with a solid track about a dog named Trouble. Don't worry, Matthew is on vocals so the singing is actually good.

Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

Great to read these stories. Here's mine. In 2005, I googled “Boon Liver” to see if an old band of mine had ever been posted online and found the Song Fight boards because Leaf (who’d been in the band with me) was quoting BL lyrics in one of his VERY LONG and rambling posts. I started posting songs ...

Re: Take It Outside

Gaping Maw says this or something like it: We’ve got to take it outside We’re shut tight in our own minds Can we colour outside the lines? can we take it outside? We can’t change if we hide We can’t just let it ride We may be too tired to fight But we have to take it outside Just a minute now — wick...

Re: Expert Opinion

Here you go, kids. Gaping Maw's Expert Opinion: Remember the day we let the world collapse? Let our reason lapse and we all took a step back? Jackass packaged fake “facts” like stacks of flap jacks, created rats of anti-vaxx. Yea, we should all inject disinfectant, well what did we expect? evidence...

Re: Near enough to perfect... (Bent Straight reviews)

More speed reviews broken into WHAT I LIKE, WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE, and WHAT YOU SHOULD MAYBE DO. Do it, don’t, whatever. Seaweed Delete I LIKED the vocal delivery, the craziness of the lyrics the chaos, the length and the abruptness of the ending. I DIDN’T LIKE ... hmmm ... the hammering synth. MAYBE Y...

Re: Bent Straight

Fussy Britches, yo: Bent Straight I’m bent out of shape Trying to find the time to get straight A bit of a mess Bottled up, throttled with stress But you bent me straight You took a chance, the chances you take Getting tired but it’s not too late To bend me straight So get inside my head and rearran...

Rob thinks this Urban Dictionary definition is funny. Fussy Britches Someone who is trying to hurry or speed something up. Mike: When are we going to go? We're gonna be late. If we're late, i'll cry....i swear...LET'S GO!!! Christian: Easy fussy britches...they're open 24 hours. You'll get your happ...

Re: Lying just under the surface of (Uncharted Waters reviews)

I sometimes get comments indicating my drum levels are just a bit too low. I purposefully raised these a hair It wasn't necessarily the volume, but how hard the drums are hit. You won't be able to edit live drums, of course, but if they're .... you know, not an acoustic kit, you might try just lowe...

I call these speed reviews — no one even gets a full listen. Lots of skipping around. But you know what? I’m going to vote for EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU. You’re welcome. Pigfarmer Jr Rob — that guy I record with all the time — pointed out the other day that I like my drums dialled down a bit with a ligh...

Uncharted Waters, by Clavikill Parental discretion is advised. Hey all you cool cats and kittens: Listen to me spit about some wet fishes. A simplistic kid who’s got a missing limb, picked on by kids, you know he can’t win. Mom murdered by a roving lunatic, siblings the same, dad’s a clown: pathetic...

Re: Worse than nothing is not (Better Than Everything reviews)

Maybe earnest isn't the right word. The emotion felt overdone to me — like one of those overwrought 80s tunes. It didn't feel like you were actually emotional, just trying to sound emotional.

Definitely got a vote — I meant: "May I have a vote?" "Yes, you may have a vote."

It's the polite Canadian way to allot votes.

Berkeley Social Scene WAIT! What is this at the end? 3:22 on? It feels like it doesn’t fit. Oh wow, yeah, wtf is that? The song was supposed to end at 3:22. I must have screwed up the start/stop points when I did the export from Cubase. Thanks for mentioning it, will fix. It was close enough that i...

I’m going to … try … to be a little more honest in these, not just say “nice song”. That’s what we want, right? Constructive criticism? To get better? We’ve got thick skin? Also, I sprained my foot yesterday getting the case of beer that was delivered to my front porch, so I’m stupid. Mandibles I wa...

Your podcast reviews of my stuff have always been honest and helpful. You've made me think a lot about the way I do vocals. It's obvious you put a ton of effort into it, and it's appreciated.
