Re: The Way It Isn't

The Way It Isn't OG Lawn Darts [I do have a lot of genre bias about these reggae songs / Smalltown Mike gets some crap for kind of singing not very interesting melodies / I tried to figure out why don’t I like this more? / I think the problem is that we’ve heard it. A lot. / I feel like it’s not all...

Better late than never right? This time around jb joins us, so it's a bit talkier than normal. So, first off — love your work. This podcast is such a great addition to Songfight and you do a great job. So thanks. I have to correct one error in the Fussy Britches review, though. I agree the chorus o...

Re: Time to Sing your Predictions of the Future (Sing of the Times Reviews)

That podcast does make me laugh. It's a great addition to song fight. Thanks for doing it. For what it's worth, I know the shrts song is only 40 seconds long, not 50. Two people have commented on how long the fade-out is, and honestly that was a mistake. My focus is always on getting the songs short...

Re: Cutting corners on your mix? (They Know reviews)

This is a really strong fight with a lot of great tunes. Nice work, people. Midnight Yacht Club: There’s potential here with a little work on structure — instead of just the same riff repeated. Vocals might be a hair loud, too. But there’s something here. Berkeley Social Scene: Great intro. The chor...

Space force!

BSS – love that opening groove. Really like this. Great driving groove. Everything is sparse, but sounds great. Great vocals. This should win. I do like a guitar solo. This is very danceable. These sentences are short.

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

As usual, just a couple thoughts on a couple songs. Balance Lost – what a really great style. I need to go check out your old stuff. Really like your voice and your style; sometimes it’s slightly out of time (slightly!) but always works well, even when it is. Out of curiosity, how much of the beat/m...

Re: It's Gone, Ruined, Broken... (So Much For That Reviews)

Just a couple songs I have thoughts about. Inflatable Veggies – Great work. I really like the a capella part (though the music cuts out abruptly). Would be great to hear it stretch on a bit longer before the music comes back in. Pigfarmer – This is really great. I think the vocals have to come up a ...

Re: Old Friends (will at least give you Reviews)

A couple thoughts about just a couple songs: Andy Balham — I definitely have a genre bias here, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I think this could use some variety in that synth. Could it drop in? Drop out? Disappear for a bit? Pigfarmer — Great voice. Sometimes it treads too closely to...

Re: Hold me closer, Tony Danza (Hugs review thread)

Sorry, just a couple comments about a couple songs. Thanks for the Frisbee – This song made me immediately smile. Really nice on all levels. I like the double vocals that sort of aren’t your standard harmonies. This is the best use of the title, I think – doesn’t at all feel forced. I listened reall...

Re: Do You Have A Plan (on how you're gonna get your reviews done?)

Is it a room reverb that makes those 2x tracked 'do you have a plan' chorus vox stand out so well? It's a great effect, and one used on every Flaming Tiger chorus so far. ;) Thanks, man. I don't know what Rob's been doing after I send him my tracks, but the chorus "gang" vocals are five (six?) take...

Flaming Tiger says: Hey, kid. with your head in the sand, I want to know — do you have a plan? Everything you want to take, but wait, I want to know — do you have a plan? Take a minute to think before you sink straight In it. I want to know — do you have a plan? I bet you think that it’s cute to let...
