Re: How long will it take to write reviews (via Sunderland)?
I haven't submitted in far too long. Right now, I'm visiting friends but they're at work and I have nothing else to do, so why not do some reviews? Shamanizer – There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to this one. You may as well be mumbling and randomly hitting the hi-hat button. Naked Philoso...

Re: TAKE SOME PEPTO, FARTY (ease your storm reviews)
rain and thunder sound effects like that only belongs at the beginning of "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath, and just inherently makes me disappointed when the song kicks in for it to not be that song. That's interesting, I didn't even think of that song! I sorta grabbed that "intro r...

Re: TAKE SOME PEPTO, FARTY (ease your storm reviews)
The Weakest Suit – Reminds me of when Elliot Smith wanted to be all lo-fi. I think it’s a really cool chord progression. The singing is a little weak, but not bad. The form is a little repetitive and could benefit from some contrasting B section. Right now it’s just something like AAAAA etc. Enter ...

Re: Double the Reviews for Half the Price(Double/Half Life Rvws)
I'd vote on the song but imo half the contest here at songfight is recording and mastering. I think this is where my opinions differ most from a bunch of people here. I do my very best to ignore production value when judging an entry. After all, this is a songwriting competition. I think we all can...

Re: Double the Reviews for Half the Price(Double/Half Life Rvws)
Haven't been here in a long time. Hi, folks. A Far Off Land (ft. Wise) – Great stuff. Sol-fa? Flute? Solid beat? Oh yeah, this has everything I need. Total vote. Rycehat – I feel like with a riff like that, the guitar tone should be a lot heavier, thicker, fatter. I feel like that would make it rock...

As for the poster, "Marcus Kellis" should probably read as "Theophilus Monk" since the whole band will be there.spud wrote:If you have gotten your band name wrong or spelled it incorrectly, now is the time to speak up, as well.
Thanks, SPUD.

Re: Walking through Shadowy Reviews (In The Valley Reviews)
The 'Scow - My entry with Mr. Marcus Kellis. The 'Scow is Theophilus Monk minus one member. Adam Adamant - I'm not a big fan of the drum sound, but considering I've never tried to use any sort of drum sound in anything I've submitted here, I don't have the right to complain. Catchy progression. Ple...

I am happy to say that Marcus and I's submission this week is not the best thing we've ever written, but we still like it.

Re: Is She Beautiful? How? (How Beautiful She Is Reviews)
stu jordan I imagine this could be pretty good if the production quality didnt suck. You definitely have a better voice than most the bozo's round here. I am fully aware of the crappiness of my production. This song really needed drums and I tried to mix it as if there were drums, but then I never ...

I'm in, but am I proud? Not at all. Get prepared to hear a shitty love note to America as performed by Weezer, but without any drums.

Mico, I really dig where you're coming from. It truly sounds like you could not go on without some sort of musical creative output, and that is completely awesome to me. I sort of experienced what you described last year when I was living back in Seattle, away from all the friends I'd made through m...

Also, Stu, keep in mind that due to Song Fight's one-vote system, you don't get votes just because someone liked your song. They had to like it best. In other words, even if everyone agreed that your song was second best overall, it would still get no votes whatsoever. SPUD p.s. All this discussion...

Re: Hit the Switcheroo! (and start reviewing)
I haven't listened to the song. But I do know a bunch of sort of hard-rock or metal-ey songs where the guitar and bass play the same riff in order to generate a really "thick" sort of feel. It's not 95% or even 75%, but in that certain genre they almost all do it. Yeah, it's definitely no...

Re: Hit the Switcheroo! (and start reviewing)
The bass and guitar hit at the same time with such regularity that it kind of makes the music sound like one big blur. Because the guitar and bass don't hit on the downbeat at the same time in 95% of pop/rock songs. Are you saying that 95% of pop/rock songs do this? I don't listen to 95% of pop/roc...

Re: Hit the Switcheroo! (and start reviewing)
Stu, do you mix with monitors, or headphones? I had this problem also, but I was told about the Beyer Dynamic DT-770 studio headphones. They are very flat with very low response, so mixing bass is great with them. I've had mine for about a year now. I use headphones, but they're nothing fancy. I th...
