Re: Deals On Gear and Software

I think the audio demos are enough to judge how well the phrasing works - if not how complicated it is to build phrases with their software. :) - Hollywood Choirs sound decent enough to get some basic choir-type sound in the background, but they sound kind of boring and too "uniform" if that makes a...

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

EastWest (Hollywood Orchestra etc.) is doing yet another sale. 60% off basically everything until the end of November (probably).

Re: Cooking

It wouldn't hurt, of course, but since most recipes aren't in that format and it's a ton of work to restructure them like that, I figure it's more time-efficient to do the chronological ordering and maybe just tweak the recipe slightly so it's easier to notice parallelizing opportunities when skimmi...

Re: Cooking

Personally I'm a big fan of "mostly" mise en place, separating the bulk of preparing ingredients from the other steps. Maybe it's not the most time-efficient way to go about things, but it sure helps keep chaos away. To easily plan out a recipe, I prefer a roughly chronologically ordered version wit...

Re: ‘Decent’ cheap gear guides?

FWIW the cheapest mic that is worth considering is Behringer's XM8500 at ~$20. Thomann has audio samples: https://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_xm8500.htm

Obviously you can't expect a large diaphragm condenser sound from it, but it's a surprisingly decent dynamic mic.

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

I've never heard of this before, so I checked it out a little yesterday. Is there a reason I should use this instead of Spotify or is it s Lyft v. Uber/ Pepsi v. Coke kind of thing? Other than them trying to move to a fairer revenue model? My reasons for using Deezer are a little incidental: they u...

Re: Aquaman

I don't even remember most of the storyline. All that's left is a vague memory of the plot, and the main thing I remember is that the character arc felt very formulaic (though "Alita - Battle Angel" which I watched more recently did this even worse and with more stupid demographic targeting). It loo...

So I found a strings plugin

Fellow sufferers of Gear Acquisition Syndrome, I present to you: Sample Modeling's Solo & Ensemble Strings , released just a few weeks ago. This stuff is amazing . Unlike pretty much every other option out there, you're not limited to pre-determined articulations. You control all of the dynamics you...

On top of their perpetual "deal" where everything is "discounted" all year round, Waves Audio have a 30%-on-everything voucher until the end of August if you spend at least $50. Bundles you may find interesting at the lower end of the price spectrum: Vocal bundle $89 -> $62.30, includes Waves Tune w...

Re: Loudness management

Yeah, same for REAPER... anyway, back to the topic. :) I think that normalizing loudness is a particularly tricky topic for submissions that have a really rough mix - e.g. the drums kick in late and are way overbearing, stuff like that. Inexperience can easily make for fluctuations of 6 dB, which wo...

Yeah, I was using Youlean's for quite some time, too. I've switched to a DAW that has built-in visualization of integrated loudness, though, so that makes it unnecessary.

Re: Loudness management

I don't mind an official recommendation, though I doubt they'll make much of a difference. I don't mind an optional filter in e.g. the jukebox, either. I wouldn't be happy with any automatic mangling of audio - for one thing it can destroy the intent of the mix, for another it makes it hard to revie...

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

Is this worth it over Kontakt Ultimate's orchestra selection? If you want many different articulations, yes. The only thing from NI's line-up that really compares to EWHO Gold/Platinum is Symphony Series (the full version, not the "Essentials" included in Komplete Ultimate). If a few basic articula...

vstbuzz.com is selling EastWest's Hollywood Orchestra Gold for around $250. That's roughly half of the current special price on EastWest's website, which in turn is ~25% discounted, so the total saving is around 62.5%. Sale going for 11 more days. https://vstbuzz.com/deals/60-off-hollywood-orchestra...

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

Or... you grab Ozone Advanced for $199 and then find one of the vendors that gives you an upgrade from that to Music Production Suite for another ~$149 (during the sale only!), which makes for ~$350 total. That's ~$150 less than getting Music Production Suite directly, or just about the same as the ...
