Re: Circle of Titles VII

A handful of people have responded already. Thanks, guys! Unfortunately it's not enough yet to publish all of the songs posted so far, too many unknowns... Anyone else? I'll send out a round of private messages in a couple of days, but feel free to respond earlier (in private to keep things interest...

Re: Circle of Titles VI

Artist profiles are now a thing, too. Now all it needs is more songs... (hint, hint) :)

Re: Circle of Titles VI

Good news, everyone! I hear there's been an attempt to collect all of the songs from Circle of Titles VI, but I don't know any results. In the meantime I've finally finished my Circle of Titles site and I've added all of the CoT6 songs I came across, here: https://cot.music-jk.net/circle/cot6 If you...

Re: Circle of Titles VII

Can I ask everyone to please send me the titles/challenges they submitted and the ones they got assigned (as a private message or e-mail to jast@srcd.de to keep the suspense up for a little longer ;))? I can't reach Nick and I'd like to get the website done, even if it's dreadfully late...

Well, turns out I won't be able to publish the results on time, probably will be too busy with other things until about two weeks later. Sorry, folks!

Re: Track sequencing

Listening habits are one thing. The other is that, to an extent, the ordering of the tracks is part of the artistic package. When people say the order doesn't matter, that's like saying all the effort you put into tracks a casual listener is hardly going to notice doesn't matter, either. That said, ...

I disagree. I say they totally could have done better, and it was quite the mess the way they did it. I'm not sure I recall all the details correctly so some of this may be a little off the mark. (Spoilers ahead but I'll try to avoid all details about interesting developments.) When Cal wakes up in ...

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

In case you haven't seen, Native Instruments is currently offering a 50% discount on all update/upgrade offers, until 2 July. So, for instance, if you have KOMPLETE Select (which is included with most of NI's hardware) and want to update to a newer version or upgrade to KOMPLETE or KOMPLETE Ultimate...

Re: Circle of Titles VII

Hey Nick, it might be helpful if you added the time zone to the first post, right now it's a little buried in the thread.

PS. Micah Sommersmith is not in the list yet but some of the folks who posted later are...

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

Jan: It’s pretty decent. I like the beat and pads in the chorus. The line “no one knows why” doesn’t seem to fit sonically, maybe because it subverts the rhyme. That's kind of funny because that line is part of the only rhyme in the chorus... and the verses don't rhyme at all. Also, everyone, thank...

Re: Ohne Ruhm

Yeah, I know about ZCM and I've used it myself, and your description about how it works is spot on. I was talking about the type of compression you're doing as its "competitor". Limiting is compression with a high ratio (e.g. > 8:1) and fast attack, and brickwall limiting is compression wi...

Re: Ohne Ruhm

JAN - What is your general opinion on ZeroCrossing maximizer vs compression? I'm guessing you mean the special case of brickwall limiting when talking about compression? Well, you can wreck the sound with both if you overdo it. I have no clear preference when applying reasonable amounts. Sometimes ...

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

I was going to send in a song, too, but had rotten luck with the trains this week and typically went right to sleep when I got home. Written in a single setting while listening (songs repeated a few times if necessary). Lyrics mostly ignored, feel free to sue me. Balance Lost : I love the guitar rif...

Re: Ohne Ruhm

Do you get annoyed when you hear bad reverb now that you're an expert? There isn't really any such thing as universally bad reverb. Sometimes you do want very artificial-sounding reverb. It's really a production choice and it's not always obvious whether somewhat ugly-sounding reverb is just due to...

Re: Ohne Ruhm

So here's my quick mix (that no one asked for, yay), without listening to the original mix first. Based on what's in the tracks I'm going for an electro sound and am not shy about adding FX. I'm imagining this drenched in long-tail reverb. ROUGH STUFF * I'm going to start with the basics: bass, drum...

Re: Listen Through The Static For Your (Cassini Reviews)

Well, I liked only one of the submissions. I'm not going to start telling everyone how great their submission is if I don't think it's great, and if I wrote about how great it is that people tried to do things, it wouldn't be a review. I'm trying to provide honest feedback here and I'm not objective...
