It's an awful title to be sure (I believe it is called Die Hard 4.0 everywhere else), but it's really fun. It's much better than any of May's Big Three. I would say that if you had any interest in seeing it at all, you would not be disappointed. B+

Knocked Up

Crowded House's Locked Out gets stuck in my head whenever I think about the name of this movie. It was okay, and therefore I'm disappointed. 40 Year Old Virgin was a perfect balance between raunchy humor and sweetness. Knocked Up tips too far onto the sweetness side. A lot of the jokes are funny; th...

Heh. Yeah, I told JB that the "little did he know" thing was absolutely awful. What, is Fabio on the cover or something? The book she's writing seems pretty bad, which is, I think, a trap these kinds of things always fall into. Mr. Holland's opus? Shitty. The sketches everyone keeps saying...

I think The Truman Show is one of the best movies of the 90's, so we differ there Marcus. But I didn't love this as much as JB and company did either. I think part of that is the fault of the trailer, which more or less shows you the entire movie. There's almost no point in watching it, except to fi...

I would imagine the Grindhouse similarity is a coincidence, as they must have both been shooting at the same time. I like the scene here better than Rodriguez's anyway.

I think this is still the best movie of the summer so far, although with those lame-ass threequels, that's not saying much.

They really Matrixed* these sequels up. D * I'm coining a new term here. Please try to use it in everyday conversation. To "Matrix" is to ruin something good by completely overdoing it and forgetting about whatever it is that made the thing good in the first place. For example: "I rea...

I missed this thread when it originated, but now there's a couple more reasons not to see a Lennon/Garant film. Their completely botched screenplay for Night at the Museum, which manages to fuck up a seemingly unfuckuppable premise. And the really bad Reno 911 movie. Blech. Maybe the entire cast of ...

The Bad Splice

OK, this is a one-time only spamming of the movie board, I promise. I have a new movie review blog called The Bad Splice. I'll be writing reviews of all the major summer films and some indies too. So check it out! Currently, there are reviews of Spidey 3 and 28 Weeks Later up. Thanks, and sorry for ...

Yeah, the structure and story are crap, and even the jokes wear thin after a while. Still, it's occasionally pretty funny. B-

I enjoyed this a lot. It's amazing how much better Penelope Cruz is as an actress when she can speak Spanish. I was knocked out by her performance in All About My Mother, and then pretty underwhelmed by every English-speaking role. So it's a nice return to form for her. And for Pedro too. I didn't l...

This might have been the worst movie I paid to see last year. I don't think Luke Wilson has the screen presence to ground any film. He's much better as a Tenenbaum-like ensemble character, where his droopiness can be offset by others.

This is my favorite movie of last year. I'm somewhat obsessed with it. I love its horrible violence and unambiguous bad guy. Fairy tale bad guys shouldn't be ambiguous. This is dark dark dark. It probably goes on my all time fave list. If you haven't seen it, you really must. A+

I have a cover of Love Spit Love's Am I Wrong over on my MySpace page. It's not me singing for the first time ever. Vocals and guitar are courtesy of my bud Matt from Portland. Oh, and be my friend if you're not already. I'm a good shoulder to cry on and I make delicious waffles.
