Re: Join me in a toast from my (Christmas In A Bottle reviews)

So is this in the key of E with no fifth? It has to be, right? Or maybe A with no fourth? I'm going with E with a major VI rather than the A with the major III. But you gotta tell me if I'm right or not. Seriously, it's driving me crazy. Piggy, when you listen to these and come with the breakdowns ...

Wait, you don’t just sit around waiting to solve code issues? I thought you were a full time employee of SongFight Enterprises, LLC. So we’re NOT going to get rich participating in this?

Re: Let's look forward to (The Last Good Year reviews)

Such a solid round…. Paco’s song is one of my favorites of his ever and the Yaks are on quite a run of submissions. But really surprised Pannacotta didn’t pull it out; I really thought that one was in a class of its own. Also, the low voter turnout was mentioned: if you add the votes as shown you ge...

Re: Let's look forward to (The Last Good Year reviews)

Dirge Nicely recorded acoustic guitar. I think the vocal EQ needs to be adjusted to allow them to sit better, as they lack definition and have some sibilance and get lost. Drums are nice, kick has impact. Is the melody too low for you? Seems like it could go up a half step and be easier for you to ...

Re: Let's look forward to (The Last Good Year reviews)

The haunting euphony of The Last Good Year explored by Dirge is nothing short of sublime. The meticulously crafted acoustic guitar creates the environment necessary for the exceptionally balanced vocal EQ to drift through and make its presence felt. Similarly, the drum parts are superb in their abi...

Re: Let's look forward to (The Last Good Year reviews)

hoodmo – I really loved the lyrics when posted. I must ask – is this auto-biographical? Or someone you know? ... Hi. No it's not autobiographical or someone I know. Well, you did a very convincing job of putting yourself in this imaginary person's shoes. I'm not sure I've ever been able to "wr...

Is a "cheerful, upbeat" Christmas song what we really need at this time of year?

Re: Let's look forward to (The Last Good Year reviews)

BSS – This is a departure from what I’ve come to expect from you guys. Very emotive. I very much like the interplay between the acoustic rhythm and the electric lead-ish accompaniment. I love the echo on the lead – what are you using? Sounds like an echoplex of some kind. Phenomenal. Dirge – I very...

Re: Let's get loud and luminous (Radio Galaxies reviews)

Dirge: This song is well-paced and arranged well. I feel like the bones of this song are good, sweet and poignant, and I think that cover versions of this will sound amazing. But the doubled lead vocal is out of tune with itself, and that compression is distractingly bad. For me, those errors under...

Dirge - The Last Good Year I saw that you went out on your own I hope you find success in being alone I saw that you went out and I bet it's hard I saw that you lost someone important to you I wonder if you now know just what to do I saw that you lost someone and I bet it's hard But that was your la...

Re: Let's get loud and luminous (Radio Galaxies reviews)

Reviews for "late" entries: Hanky Code - What the hell happens at 0:40? Absolutely hysterical mash up of back-porch banjo blues and robot-voice synth rock. Don't get me wrong, it works but I would have had the two "voices" layered together at 1:28; first stanza banjo, second robo...

Re: Let's get loud and luminous (Radio Galaxies reviews)

Absolutely Credible – Nice piano playing. As cool as it is on its own, I feel like it’s a little too busy under the verse. Other than the business of the verses, this song has a really nice grasp of dynamics. In my grunge-centric world, I really want a fuzz guitar on the chorus to push it over the ...

Re: Thanks, synchrotron process (Radio Galaxies prefight)

Seems like everyone is busy this time of year. Wonder why? I was literally tracking one hour prior to having to be somewhere; the end product is a rushed, garbled disaster. But as my first entry in six years, I'll take it. Hopefully it spurs some more creativity.

Happy Holidays all.

Re: Don't forget the torches (Pitchfork Nation Reviews)

Andy Balham - I really like the keys churning over the song, especially the choruses. It seems like you lose the beat at times, but then I actually count "one-two-one-two" and sure enough, it stays on time. So I guess the drums fills just seem awkward and really detract from the drive of ...
