Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

Looking forward to my walk and listen today. All the lyrics look really great. Reading through I realised in my haste to put something together I forgot to put put in a mention to a rear window in my lyrics, whoopsees. If I was having a driving test I would have failed :( It's not an explicit requi...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

I just could not motivate myself to get started this week. Finally friday night I had some scratch guitars and about 1 1/2 verses with mumbling for the choruses. A friend from work volunteered to come sing and play his drums (which are currently at my house). Song is somewhat centered around a weddi...

Rear Window by Lucky Spoon w/ Arjun on drums Guy 1: Arjun Guy 2: Me V1 (Guy 1) She was the perfect girl, but I could never see how I took for granted all the things that she made of me When she left I let her go and didn't think twice and now i'm just a slob of solitude in what i call my life but i...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

Lucky Spoon - Fantastic! This is incredibly fun! Lyrics are exceptional. The story had me glued to hear what happened next even before realizing the entire thing is referencing the Mandalorian! The whole thing feels a bit loose, but that works perfectly for what you're doing. Oh wow, I'm honored. I...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

I used upright bass and guitar. I haven't put a pick up on my new upright so I had some fun researching out to mic them and got some decent results. Sometimes you might hear a click and that's my ring slamming into the neck of the bass and the mic picking that up. Adds character. I'd venture to say ...

Re: NUR EIN XV - Chupacabra

Fun little goofy tale. It has deeper context that might give spoilers to a TV show/Movie. Leaving under a spoiler tag in case you want to guess on your own or you like to avoid spoilers. Credit to my brother for giving me this idea. It's someone who watched the Mandalorian season 1 on Disney+, but d...

What an incredible batch of songs. Best round 1 ever?

My lyrics were their own liner notes, but here's what really happened:
Watching you run so close to the deadline made me anxious and I had to stop watching and go work on my song.

Also what about making one or both of the instruments sound or function like something else via effects ... ? :P

I think that falls under FX pedals?

>In the case of synths / keyboards / FX pedals, one patch = one instrument.

But what about FX on our vocals??

Re: Nur Ein XV Round One "The Handbook"

Song notes: My wife and I get into fights about things like online reviews where my position is they don't matter if it doesn't work for you or if you don't like it. This, along with similar things, has lead to me consolidating my position into a phrase "life doesn't have an instruction manual". So ...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"

I came close to wet eyes myself. ayyup... recording the last chorus took a few takes before I could get all the words out without getting completely choked up. Thanks for the kind words and lengthy reviews! I know that criticizing the song can come across as insensitive in light of that. No worries...

What is that strange code editor that you are using to write your lyrics with?
Yes, I want to know this too. I searched and found Lyric Notepad but that's only for mobile.

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"

Look at the papers of people who got higher grades than a D-, identify commonalities in the papers which scored higher than D-, then try and imitate the commonalities in the papers which scored higher than a D-. And like, in this situation, if F&D got a low-but-still-made-the-cutoff score in one ro...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"

that doesn't technically meet the challenge IMO. Good to know (Thanks for the kind words in the review, as well). I think the title and the meme that goes with it primes the mind to think of a contradiction in context vs an internal contradiction in the given lyrics. e.g. the Dog says "This is fine...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"

I'm sure some people appreciate and look forward to reviews, and I'm not trying to advocate for them going away or anything. Just making a request for judges to not review our song(s), a request that they can honor if they like, or not honor if they don't care to. Reviews from judges are really imp...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"

As mentioned in the lyrics thread, this song is about my nephew, Jonathan, who had Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and passed away when he was 7 months old. The contradiction comes from singing about how everything will be fine when it won't. The music lends itself to the soft sweetness of a lullaby t...

Re: NUR EIN XV - This Is Fine

This song is about my nephew, Jonathan, who had spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and passed away when he was 7 months old. The lyrical contradiction is singing a lullaby to a child about what he's going to be when he grows up (when he won't) and how everything will be fine (when it isn't). This is Fine...

Re: Nur Ein XV

My round 0 will definitely be better than last year's, but also there's always the inclination to take on the challenge of making it... worse. I like that I met a few of you at Song fight live last year so I have more inspiration of who's listening vs just shit-posting inside jokes to Mike. After a ...
