Re: Nur Ein XV Round Six "Homestretch"

This was great, guys! Thanks for another entertaining episode. Re: the Balance Lost song; you are absolutely right, I should have been in the final :D . But the guest singer is Melvin, who was a regular from about 2005-2008 and a member of the Worldy Self-Assurance. I also prefer his voice to mine ...

Re: Nur Ein XV Final Round "Pistols At Dawn"

Congrats to Jon Eric, really solid finish! Another Nur Ein in the books. Things that stood out to me: see-man-ski - loved the groove on This is Fine. Glad you were revived. Also killer guitar tone on Chupacabra Glow worm - fun story about quarantining with sister and getting to make music together. ...

Very unfortunately my video recording screwed up so there will be no Behind The Screams video for this one, which really bums me out.

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Four "Carte Blanche"

Are we supposed to incorporate the actual Bond theme song? My take, given the bond theme song playlist, is that every bond movie has a theme song. There are just more popular ones that we'd consider *the* bond theme song. Each theme song is more or less about the movie it's associated with. In this...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

Hmmm, sounds like I'm on the right track. Vox volume too loud verse too quiet chorus so turn the whole track up, then lower volume on verse seems like a last minute desperation hack. It makes sense to tweak everything else and make sure the EQs are all playing together nicely. But yeah tough when ti...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

Lucky Spoon - The bass is far too loud in the mix, and that is especially apparent in headphones. Lead vocal is buried in the mix, and that might be a good thing because it sounds like you're flat fairly often. Is there a guest vocalist? Okay, I suppose that is two different vocalists, but it isn't...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

Looking forward to my walk and listen today. All the lyrics look really great. Reading through I realised in my haste to put something together I forgot to put put in a mention to a rear window in my lyrics, whoopsees. If I was having a driving test I would have failed :( It's not an explicit requi...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

I just could not motivate myself to get started this week. Finally friday night I had some scratch guitars and about 1 1/2 verses with mumbling for the choruses. A friend from work volunteered to come sing and play his drums (which are currently at my house). Song is somewhat centered around a weddi...

Rear Window by Lucky Spoon w/ Arjun on drums Guy 1: Arjun Guy 2: Me V1 (Guy 1) She was the perfect girl, but I could never see how I took for granted all the things that she made of me When she left I let her go and didn't think twice and now i'm just a slob of solitude in what i call my life but i...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

Lucky Spoon - Fantastic! This is incredibly fun! Lyrics are exceptional. The story had me glued to hear what happened next even before realizing the entire thing is referencing the Mandalorian! The whole thing feels a bit loose, but that works perfectly for what you're doing. Oh wow, I'm honored. I...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

I used upright bass and guitar. I haven't put a pick up on my new upright so I had some fun researching out to mic them and got some decent results. Sometimes you might hear a click and that's my ring slamming into the neck of the bass and the mic picking that up. Adds character. I'd venture to say ...

Re: NUR EIN XV - Chupacabra

Fun little goofy tale. It has deeper context that might give spoilers to a TV show/Movie. Leaving under a spoiler tag in case you want to guess on your own or you like to avoid spoilers. Credit to my brother for giving me this idea. It's someone who watched the Mandalorian season 1 on Disney+, but d...

Also what about making one or both of the instruments sound or function like something else via effects ... ? :P

I think that falls under FX pedals?

>In the case of synths / keyboards / FX pedals, one patch = one instrument.

But what about FX on our vocals??

Re: Nur Ein XV Round One "The Handbook"

Song notes: My wife and I get into fights about things like online reviews where my position is they don't matter if it doesn't work for you or if you don't like it. This, along with similar things, has lead to me consolidating my position into a phrase "life doesn't have an instruction manual". So ...
