There's a free trial. I'm trying it. It's terrible. Do not buy this garbage.

Re: The Guitar Doctor Is In

If you have a volume pedal already, you can try putting that in the FX Loop, before you buy the little black JHS box. YMMV and I am not a doctor, but I've seen other people do it-- I think the Dual Rectifier has a knob to control how much of the signal goes through the FX loop, so you'd want to turn...

2 years of MasterWriter for $80: https://www3.masterwriter.com/store/store/licensepromotion1New.do?dcn=10067&writer_type=2 I haven't used this, but it has a lot of testimonials. It looks like a bunch of decent dictionaries with decent search tools. Not sure, but I think it might actually run on your...

Re: Don't get pricked on all of the (Porcupine Reviews)

There are 2 separate JBB songs this week. Fightmaster decided the naming scheme, which is delightfully confusing. There's no way to tell them apart so just vote for both of them. ... Okok, there is a slim thread of hope to preserve your precious sanity when deciding to tell the universe that you don...

Re: Finishing "No Memory" by Merisan

I didn't listen to the original, so this is feedback only about the new version with no history. In my headphones (Sennheiser 650 open backs): * The song-- is GREAT. * Erin's performance-- is GREAT. * The chiptunes kick sound is too loud, definitely takes over a bit. It sounds like it's mixed like a...

Re: The Guitar Doctor Is In

I can imagine using the single coil if it’s a certain situation. Like a more quiet thing, or at least it would let me turn the amp up past 2... Anyway, @vowlvom go get your guitar set up and live life. People make guitars out of anything these days, so if you have a guitar figure out what you don’t ...

Re: The Guitar Doctor Is In

Cellophane duh But for real I had locking tuners installed so wrapping is for suckers. Though the tech did wrap the strings he put in it when he installed the tuners. Something about “staying in tune” or some crap. I’ve tried the obnoxious twistitinaknot guaranteed to work locking methods and could ...

Oh and they’ll probably change your strings for you too which is my least favorite part of playing guitars. So, setups are awesome.

Re: The Guitar Doctor Is In

A professional setup is on the order of $35/50. Worth it to me to have somebody who does it all the time make sure the neck is straight, the action is where I like it, and that it’s as in tune as it can get. The worst part of getting g a setup is not having the guitar for a couple days while it wait...

Re: Don't get pricked (Porcupine prefight)

I have a "Porcupine".

Its lyrical approach will be mildly controversial.

Its musical approach will be YMMV.

There will be no doubt it is well made, but it won't be for everyone. Consider yourself warned.

Re: Acting on Song Fight feedback

You asked a lot of interesting questions, and I have commentary on them. So here's some responses from my POV, for whatever it's worth . I think I generally try to phrase my own reviews / comments in a kind of "I liked these things but not these things I find that kind of thing useful, because I con...

Re: Acting on Song Fight feedback

For me, feedback: Confirms intention ("Did the listeners get X aspect of my song?") Answers questions ("Is my intro too long?") Reveals the unknown ("Oh, I didn't even think of that!") It doesn't usually provide any specific instruction tho. Tips and tricks do that, but they're never part of feedbac...

Ha, shows how knowing just a little about someone's process causes one to make incorrect assumptions.

Third Cat I like the delay on the vocal. Chorus is too short. You get into a groove on the second verse, and the performance is like 2x better than the first verse/chorus. Short as it is, I really like that chorus melody and arrangement a lot. So I wish there was more of it. Another couplet would h...

Re: Songwriting competition judging mechanisms

In the case of a Nur Ein situation, though this topic wasn’t about that originally, would the goal be to receive not only a more objective critique from the judges, but for that objectivity to carry weight in the outcome? Tough to achieve since so many measures of songcraft are inherently subjective...
