Re: Mixing and Mastering for Songfight: A response

I think that were an upload form ever implemented, giving submissions a LAME normalization pass is a reasonable and feasible level of processing that would help the Song Fight listening experience be a little more consistent in one specific area.

Make sure you're using Logic's new De-esser 2. It's better than the original.

And do feel free to post a file here for folks to mess around with.

Re: Song Fight! Live #20 in 2020 for Song Fight! 20th anniversary SF

Oh we were there for the music, don’t worry. :) Oh at that show we improvised the live fight, the title of which was “Hot Lunch”. It wasn’t until a year later that we had the idea to announce a live fight titlle a week before. And Brandon provided the drum set, the floor tom of which was tuned exqui...

Re: Song Fight! Live #20 in 2020 for Song Fight! 20th anniversary SF

Hot Lunch was a trial name, this couple was trying to start it up as a venue while living in the back. It was basically an empty room. The toilet didn’t work. Gaby and Mo played a hundred Prince covers. Ranch On Suede was there. Add Music was there in a homemade sharpied Hilfiger t-shirt and a car h...

My upstairs neighbors are having their floors refinished. This is supposedly the last day of "noise" in a months-long renovation project. Gaahhhhhhh. I work from home, btw. Did you move since SFLive DC? I thought your townhome had the complete vertical slice. Yah we moved a few streets away a few y...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Yeah, if I listen to 1 sockpuppet song in a month, and that's my only stream for that month, then sockpuppet should get $7. Why does it matter that it makes the royalties less volatile? WHY WOULD INDIE ARTISTS GIVE A FUCKING SHIT ABOUT ROYALTY VOLATILITY IF THE ALTERNATIVE IS NO ROYALTIES. "We get ...

Magnetic Letters — lovely lovely UJN X REVE — magnificent, my favorite Vom Norton — like a warm, comforting, murderous blanket Third Cat — I’d be obssessed with this if the vocals were up front, but they're buried Good job with the recruiting efforts. Proof will be in the pudding though when all th...

Don Mattingly's Mustache: I'm going to second furrypedro's critique/analysis of the content on all counts, I'm kind of put off by the whole "well it's OK to love me but if you love all these other people you're a slut!" kinda thing, unclear why the protagonist feels like he's so special. Also, I'm ...

Re: "Alexa, play the latest fight on Song Fight!"

Https works (we have Let’s Encrypt activated on the .org domain) but the scripts for creating the fights make the links http. Would the Alexa skill work if we autoredirected any http request to https? Or must the links in the skill have the s in them? JB I've tried to make a Skill to do this, the on...

Just seems, I dunno, sad or wasteful, that this wonderful site could slip away. Or something. Time marching on, and all that.
Nothin’s slipping away. Especially not now that we have a beef. We’re fighting. I’m totally prepping a dis track right now.

It’s an acquired taste you know? A group of musicians actually producing content and not just talking about gear or how to break into the industry.

More like a drawing/illustration community I think.

Naw. As an expert American I can maintain and even nurture anger while participating in the thing I hate.

Also they still do the garbage "play count pooling" thing that Spotify does. Pay $10/month for Apple Music, stream nothing but Octothorpe, most of the music goes to bands that aren't Octothorpe.

Note: The "Don Mattingly's Mustache" entry is me and infamous songfighter Marcus Kellis, who came to DC to visit friends and stopped by my house to crank out an entry to the fight. Don Mattingly was a childhood hero of mine, and subsequently manager of Marcus's favorite team, the Dodgers. Marcus wro...

Lot of interesting, effortful submissions for this fight. I think Hoblit is my favorite right now.
