Is this a birthday tribute to our good friend fluffy's band fluffy porcupine?
"fluffy porcupine" was my band name, not my me-name.
Edited.

Happy birthday!

Re: Song Fight! Live 2019: Gear Info

What I've rounded up so far is in bold below: - a PA -- covered, the Rigby has an 8000 watt Mackie DLM system, 2 tops and 2 subs, 10 channel mixing w/EQ & FX plus 2 sends/monitors. They stated they have a rack mount quad DI they can bring in if needed, but if 2 direct ins are all we need, the mixer...

I will definitely be there.

Unfortunately, it will be a very quick trip, arriving Friday and leaving Sunday.

It gets good reviews on Sweetwater: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... gx/reviews

My concern would be that this unit is 10-15 years old. It may make more sense to get something more current. Does your friend need 88 keys?

nobody remembers GarageBand.
Garageband was great because if you did a certain number of reviews you got a gift card to buy a CD of your choosing from some Canadian record store I can remember. That was totally worthwhile.

Just about to check out the new Palehound!
Nice. I'm going to check that out as well.

I just listened to Yeasayer - Erotic Reruns. It was peppy, but not catchy. It kind of just washed over me as background music.

New Music Friday - 6/7/19

Not seeing much that I'm familiar/excited about today. I'm going to start with the new Perry Farrel - Kind Heaven. What are you going to check out?

Re: Songwriting competition judging mechanisms

I think it would be interesting to create some kind of rubric for judging and see where that gets you. I'm not sure what exactly that would look like, but maybe something like a Creative Writing course rubric you can find online.

Just in case anyone is interested in the recommendations I made Sam offline, here they are: Some thoughts on $300-500 condenser mics. My first thought is don't get a $300 mic. Anyway, here are some suggestions: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BabyBottleSL--blue-microphones-baby-bottle-sl-lar...

Everything old is new again I guess. Weren't songs in the 50s only 2 minutes long due to the 45/jukeboxes? Bring back the quick fade out!

Re: Best vocal recording mic in the $300-500 range?

I have not ruled that out, no. You are welcome to try mine if you'd like. It needs a lot of gain, so you might consider an external preamp as well. I have thought that dynamic mics would be good for her, so you might want to try the Sennheiser MD421. We've got the one at the space you can try out a...

the main difference is just the keyboard shortcuts This is a real pain point for me these days as I'm very fluent in Cubase short cuts. It even bothers me when I edit video in Adobe Premiere. prayformojo tells me that professionals with these issues have a way to remap the shortcuts just to avoid t...

I'm enjoying the new album from Sinkane - Dépaysé https://www.sinkane.com/ Sinkane is a Sudanese-American musician who blends krautrock, prog rock, electronica, free jazz and funk rock with Sudanese pop. He is signed to City Slang Records. Born to college professors in London, he lived in Sudan, the...

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

@ken: what do you like about Cubase in particular? I feel like that's one DAW I never seem to hear people I know talking about for whatever reason, so I don't really know anything about it. It is kind of hard to describe at this point, since I've been using Cubase (and Nuendo before it) since I sta...

New Music Friday - 5/31/19

Last day of May, what are you checking out? I just listened to Duff McKagen - Tenderness and it was pretty good. I kept thinking about how Axl Rose gets a lot of the credit, but Duff wrote some of the songs from Appetite for Destruction as well. This album is kind of bluesy in a classic, classic roc...

I've been meaning to mention that Steinberg is celebrating 10 years of Cubase by offering it for 50% off. This is an incredible deal on one of the best DAWs out there. You can join folks like Lunkhead and myself and become a user as well.
