Re: Before you were famous (I Used to Know You Better prefight)

Almost made it this week. Maybe I'll submit it late if I can find time (and the skill) to record the guitar solo and mix properly.

Pyle SM57 Copy

Hi All, Moving this conversation to a new thread. I recommended the PylePro PDMIC78 as a cheap and good sounding microphone. Below are a couple of quick clips I made so you can hear it on acoustic guitar and vocals. I tried to make an entry for this week's fight, but ran out of time. The acoustic gu...

Re: Ssssssssssssssssibilance

I highly recommend the PylePro PDMIC78 which sounds a lot like my transformer removed Shure Sm57 for cheap. Have you used it on many sound sources? Vox, acoustic, amps etc.,? I've mostly used it for guitar amps and vocals. It sounds good on both. I'm fairly sure it doesn't have a transformer, so th...

Re: Your favorite music podcast?

Dolly Parton’s America https://pca.st/podcast/993678d0-c1f1-0137-b70e-0acc26574db2 Wow, produced by Jad Abumrad from RadioLab! I also found a podcast called Smart Music Business and downloaded a few episodes to check out. It seems like it could be useful if you are still a musician trying to "make ...

Re: Ssssssssssssssssibilance

...if you're recording with an SM57 :) (which I would think is a pretty decent mic for reducing these issues, although this guy suggests you can replace the transformer to improve it if you're into DIY. Personally, I'd try some other solutions first!) Not to hijack/sidetrack the conversation, but I...

Re: Ssssssssssssssssibilance

I find dynamic mics help to minimize sibilance. Cheap condenser mics makes it worse. There isn't much you can do if your voice is sibilant. Just keep trying different mics and positions until you find a way to minimize it.

Re: New Music Friday - 10/11/19

I'm excited to check out the new Mark Kozelek/Petra Haden album per your recommendation, ken. MK has been a mixed bag for me. I was a big Sun Kil Moon fan, I loved "Ghosts of the Great Highway" so much but it's much more traditionally structured. The forays into stream-of-consciousness raw diary mu...

Forgot about the new Big Thief album Two Hands. I really like this band and their separate, but related albums this year are really good.

You've got five suggestions. How about each one submits a couple of solos and you pick and choose your favorites?

Re: New Music Friday - 10/11/19

I heard a little of the Kim Gordon as well seems really interesting. I listened to the Mark Kozelek/Petra Haden album over the weekend and it was FUCKING MIND BLOWING. I don't know how he writes those rambly story songs that sound like meta-diary pages set to music. Petra just add another layer of a...

I was gonna say Mo as well, but Lunkhead is no slack either. Glennny and Paco are also shredders. How about Melvin?

I saw an acoustic performance by Aaron Lee Tasjan this weekend and it reminded me of Frankie Big Face. I'm going to listen to this album right now.

New Music Friday - 10/11/19

It's been an unusual week for me, so I wasn't going to start this post, but I just saw the there is a new album that is a collaboration between Mark Kozelek and Petra Haden. This is going to be good! https://www.roughtrade.com/us/mark-kozelek-and-petra-haden/joey-always-smiled/cd?fbclid=IwAR27xphPn4...

Re: Song Fight! Live #20 in 2020 for Song Fight! 20th anniversary SF

Oh, I just looked at the flyer. That's obviously for a later Song Fight! Presents show, not the original Song Fight! Live. Are you sure that was at The Accordion? It was the same space under a different name. It was called Hot Lunch when the first Songfight Live was there, and then was called the A...

Re: Song Fight! Live #20 in 2020 for Song Fight! 20th anniversary SF

I'm fairly certain the auto repair shop was always there on the street level. This space was up a flight of stairs. It was basically someone's home that rented it out as an event space.

Any idea what that place's address was...? So far a wee bit of searching hasn't turned up much info for me.
The address is at the bottom of this flyer: https://songfight.net/forums/download/file.php?id=924

382 Bayshore Blvd., between Cortland and Oakdale streets in San Francisco, CA.

Was Hot Lunch the name of a venue in San Francisco?
Yes. I was introduced to Song Fight by some band mates who went to that show. We held a number of other songfight themed concerts in that same space for a couple of years when it was called the Accordion.

New Music Friday - 10/3/19

I got a little derailed by the live stream from Hardly Strictly Bluegrass today, but I also listened to a new Post Malone collaboration that sounds like Linkin Park, the new Wilco album Ode to Joy, and new songs by Big Thief and the Who.

So there's actually a good reason I'm using Deezer? Cool.
I've never heard of this before, so I checked it out a little yesterday. Is there a reason I should use this instead of Spotify or is it s Lyft v. Uber/ Pepsi v. Coke kind of thing?
