Re: Poetry In The Streets

"Poetry In The Streets" by Berkeley Social Scene Where do you find what’s on the city’s mind? Go where the people meet, out in the street. There’s comfort in a winding road There’s music in every zip code On the lips of passers by Poetry in the streets A paper slip killing time Poetry in t...

Hologram Concerts

Hey All, Sam and I have talked about this a bit because I was interested in seeing the Roy Orbison Hologram concert. Sam was concerned that there is enough competition for musicians without it including dead ones. I just read another article about someone who attended an opera performance. What are ...

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story

I didn't think it was all that bad. I have a friend who said it was his favorite Star Wars movie yet. It is such an iconic character, whose past is alluded to frequently, but never explored. One of the best parts of Star Wars is that the universe is lived in. We don't need to know all the details of...

New Music Friday - 11/1/18

What new music are you listening to this week? Hiss Golden Messenger, Virgo Fool - easy listening and sometimes upbeat. Sun Kil Moon, This is My Dinner - Mark Kozelak one hell of a songwriter. Somehow he makes the mundane interesting and tells engaging yet meandering stories. Most of these songs are...

New Music Friday - 10/19/18

Here's what new music I've listened to today: the Beatles, three versions of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Always interesting to hear how Beatles songs are in flux while they are recording. Lyrics change, arrangements change. I'm not even sure the final version is the best. Very interesting. Peter, ...

Re: Red Warrior Needs Reviews Badly (Blue Woman Yes reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - Love the opening guitar riff. Catchy Chorus. Great harmonized guitar solo! Ghost Pup - I like the jazzy guitar. It's hard to hear the rest of the band though. Even the vocals are a little lost behind that guitar. Glenn Case - Classic Glenn Case! I like the lead guitar part on...

Re: New Music Friday - 10/12/18

Checked out a few more new albums: Dodos - didn't grab me. I like one of their songs and enjoyed seeing them live one time, but overall just can't get into them. Watson Twins - Pleasant enough. BRONCHO, Bad Behavior - a little too mellow for me today John Grant, Love is Magic - weird and wonderful. ...

Re: New Music Friday - 10/12/18

I checked out some of these albums today... Elvis Costello - too jazzy for my taste. I thought with the Imposters, this would be more rock and roll. Parcels - didn't hold my attention. St. Vincent - love the piano only version of Pills. So good. Edie Brickell and New Bohemians - funkier than expecte...

Re: Automatic songs, automatic reviews (Yes, You're A Robot reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - the vocal melody kinda sinks this one for me, it just feels like it follows a very obvious pattern along with the chords. Maybe that's a deliberate attempt to sound robot-esque, but it's just feels uninspired to me. The bridge is cool though, the solo is good as ever, and I ...

Berkeley Social Scene - Yes, You're a Robot Verses: We all pretend to be someone we’re not With imposter syndrome, you can’t get caught But with you, it's something greater Not a human, an imitator A rusty cage full of buggy code A skeleton in gentlemen’s clothes Hide in plain sight, a simple plan A...

Just listened to Van William - Countries and really liked it. Van was the leader of Port O'Brien and this is a solo album by him. Very enjoyable listen.
