Re: Don't get pricked on all of the (Porcupine Reviews)

This is pretty solid set of songs. Balance Lost: The first 30 seconds don't work for me, I think because of the vocal timing. Then the song kicks in properly. 1:13 - 1:25 doesn't sound quite as off as the beginning, either. I like the lyrics. There are some catchy melodic bits. Good ending. Vote. Be...

Re: Porcupine

Porcupine - Tim Hinkle lonely lad, a-lion in wait for an easy meal grab a bite and cop a feel "haven't you heard, hon, that's the deal since we've been kings" of course you had to turn him down when he'd persist, call him a clown he'd chased you half across the town when you drew blood (the wound st...

New Music Friday - 5/3/19

The new Filthy Friends is pretty good. I particularly like "Only Lovers are Broken."

Re: No escape from the reality of (Is This Real Life Reviews)

I listened through all the songs a third time today and finally wrote up some comments. I voted after my second listen through, though (wasn't sure I was going to manage to get the time to write things up). Berkeley Social Scene: I love the solo and the chorus melody. This is one of several songs th...

Re: A support group for (The Dream Crusher Reviews)

Small correction, I think you guys misread my comment; the robotic drums/guitar timing remark wasn't directed at Paco, but Lichen Throat. Yes, it was I, not Paco, whose song might benefit from drum removal. I thought this made sense in theory, so I tried it out. In practice, I'm not sure whether it...

Re: Red Warrior Needs Reviews Badly (Blue Woman Yes reviews)

Jerkatorium - Very Spinal Tap. It's ridiculous, but it's also pretty catchy. Glenn Case - I'm not buying-in to the lyrics' optimism. Quite possibly that's down to baggage I'm bringing with me rather than the lyrics themselves. Love the sound of all the guitars on this. Some beautiful vocal harmonies...

Re: Where's The Shredder for the (Tearing Down History Reviews)

I really dig the bizarre instrumental solo. are those kazoos? Yes, three kazoo parts. I thought I was going to hate the kazoo bridge, but somehow it works. How did it occur to you to do that? I've been a keen proponent of kazoo solos for years. I did another kazoo bit a few months ago on Song Fight...

Re: Where's The Shredder for the (Tearing Down History Reviews)

Glenny - Really catchy riff going on. Reminds me slightly of Talking Heads, or maybe a 70s prog group's foray into the 80s. Vocal harmonies right at the end could do with being a bit more solid. Phillipso - The sound of all the instruments, individually and together, is really nice on this. The song...

Re: I Hope You Get A"round" to your (Square States Reviews)

Sparetooth: I quite like most of the instrument sounds. There are bits that feel harpischord-like and others koto-like. The vocal melody seems to mostly meander and doesn't stick with me much, though. Ken's Super Duper Band 'n Stuff: I like this one. It got me grooving along. This is my Old Grey Whi...
