Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music

Paco, the only place you suck is in your own head mate. I always look forward to your submission and whenever I try to challenge myself I look for your stuff. So Fluffy should get a free beer for being the supportive fan. By the way thanks for taking care of my submission Bill. Much appreciated. I r...

Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music

Bill,
I got deployed Sunday and had to send my cover to Swillington the recipient before leaving. You can find my submission on my website including the video if you're interested in seeing it. Cheers man and thanks for organizing this.

Writing from out there,

Gilles :)

Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music

Now that's the spirit. Let 'er rip Fluffy... But contrary to the "Fuck That" song I created for that particular sidefight, I am a conformist so I'll wait.

Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music

Heh. Shock factor will be when I submit a Wolfman Jack vocal if my voice doesn't get better. Hell, that might be an improvement, but I'd rather go the usual tortuous route. Somehow I believe you can do a great Wolfman impression. I happened on a 2008 recording of yours called "paper thin"...

Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music

I'm obviously slipping in my procrastinator duties. I'm been done with this thing since shortly after it was announced. Hell I even made a video for it.

You boys get cracking :)

You my friend are very welcome. I can't wait to hear the music you'll be making with a set of drums at your fingertips. Enjoy the e-kit.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)

Wow, nice job Reist. I actually started improvising lyrics and belting it out as you played. "When I tried, looking down. My fears were insi-ee-ya-ide. When I looked, at them all..." bla bla bla. Well, I'm sure you'll come up with something much better than this, but you sure had me going ...

Re: What's a good set of e-drums?

Jim, Something interesting about the USB kit referred to earlier is that should you ever decide to play outside your studio with it, if you have a laptop with a DAW or midi sampler, you could potentially hook the audio output of the laptop to a powered speaker and rock away. The other thing is that ...

Re: Basic Songwriting

Well since this thread is meant to help newbies I should pipe up and say "Thank you Jon and all of you". I've been writing songs for a couple years and its been incredibly frustrating but I'm stubborn so I won't quit. I'm at the point where I keep getting told that my songs need drums and ...

Re: Drumming without a Drummer

. (Any reviews on the Yamaha DTExplorer?)? I've got one of those Jim. Nice simple machine but very limited. It has basic e-kit functionality. So if you want something that has the ability to do rim shots or grab the crash to dampen the sound. The DTX won't do that for you. A Roland TD3 and up would...

Re: Drumming without a Drummer

Well Billy, this prompted me to look around for songwriting info and I found this site http://www.songwritingfever.com/songwritingtips/getstarted.html . Which will eventually lead me back to drumming without a drummer. Ok this topic is making me dizzy, I need a beer. Sorry about the off topic folks,...

Re: Drumming without a Drummer

Ok, I have a quick question. Do you have an understanding of song structure? Or at least in the genre of music you are into writing? The quick answer to this is "Not really". But I'm hoping that I'll catch on at some point. I'm a year from retirement. I'll have lots of time then if I have...

Re: Drumming without a Drummer

Speaking from a novice musician perspective, I can say that money does not compensate for lack of knowledge. I've got all kinds of crap including EZdrummer, an e-kit, loops galore and the list goes on. And even with all that crap I still don't know what or where to put in as far as beats go. The com...

The law of inevitability has it that you made me laugh my ass off. And you're right. There's something to be said for taking "taking it easy" to the extreme :)
