Re: Hear ye! Hear ye! Ring Them Bells Reviews

Kind of out of tune, intro's a bit long but the violins are pleasant in a quaint way. Tough to see how this relates to "Ring Them Bells" but I was in Portland Maine a few weeks ago and this music would do perfectly while putting on a nice buzz at one of those wraught-iron / brick alley pubs that th...

Re: Hear ye! Hear ye! Ring Them Bells Reviews

Hi folks! I managed to put some time in to give a few critiques. I'll try not to be too strict. Paco Del Stinko: Nice retro sound that reminds me of Johnny Cash. Can't go wrong. A little tongue in cheek with a bit of a sense of humor but it's well done. It's what i don't hear, but when I listen I ca...

Re: Hear ye! Hear ye! Ring Them Bells Reviews

I heard Signboy's SONG featuring Rone Rivendale. The guitar is really tight. I love the cheering in the background. Rone and Signboy work well together in a strange way. Rone Rivendale's singing is alllll over the map. I find it works and it doesn't really work. I think it's cool but it's hard for m...

Re: Maid to be plaid? (Made to Be Played Reviews)

Gee, I'm back on the 70's underground road trip movie soundtrack again. That's alright, I like going there. I enjoy the pace of this and the organic elements. While the fiddle section may go on too long, it's far from unpleasant or boring. Confident and relaxed, yet energetic. I give myself a pat o...

Re: Maid to be plaid? (Made to Be Played Reviews)

The bluegrass riff gives the song an interesting character. The vocal harmony is imaginative. There is a pronounced 4/4 beat, but between the beats the synchronization seems off, giving the rhythm a blurry effect. One guitar on the rhythm would be enough; the second could just couple the bluegrass ...

Re: Maid to be plaid? (Made to Be Played Reviews)

In response to the questions about whether the song title should be included in the song, I think it can go either way. Limitations like the requirement to have the song title in the chorus aren't so bad because that presents yet another challenge and that makes it more difficult. What can we do wit...

Re: Maid to be plaid? (Made to Be Played Reviews)

Loved the way this started with the fiddle, the guitars and percussion. Phrasing/timing was off a bit on a lot of the changes. Sort of had a "two lead vocals" feel instead of a lead vocal and backing/harmony vocal. I don't think that helps too much. The lead break dragged on for a little too long. ...

Re: Sometimes It's Hard to Keep Yourself Writing Reviews

Sorry guys, when I say the word "Solution" I am referring to "your way of solving the challenge." So to explain this our fight this week was called "Sometimes it's hard to keep yourself moving." A person's solution to this is what they submitted. I use that term from the Graphic Design program in co...

Re: Sometimes It's Hard to Keep Yourself Writing Reviews

I could only find time to do some critiques. Sorry I didn't get everybody. James Owens James, your song is well done. Musically I can find no fault. Lyrics, I can't find any fault either but I get the feeling you might be at a place where I've also been. When the song is done and you've done your be...

Re: If you can't say anything nice..(nothing is everything revs)

Engaging beginning. Thanks for the comment! I love the violins and how they mix with the guitars. The drums could have been better but we're going to re-record them in the future with proper drums. When I get time I'll listen to more of the other songs for the fight! What I heard so far sounds grea...

Re: If you can't say anything nice..(nothing is everything revs)

but the absence of tightness could be misunderstood. It sounds like it's coming from the garage next door. Thanks for the critique. I consider this song to be a step forward in progress but I must admit that I've got some ways to go. The timing is off and the lyrics written were thrown together in ...

Re: What Happens at the Butchers Convention? (They Meet Reviews)

I'd like to make a quick note for Authors Of. This is our first collaborative work that we submitted. I got Signboy to do the vocals. Personally I really like the chorus and I also like the experience of collaborating on a tight deadline. So even though there is room for improvement it's a great lea...

Re: Dear Jury: Vote not guilty; I'll pay you! /Acquitted Reviews

I'll try to post some comments on the ones I didn't vote for and why, but in general, it came down to out of tune instruments or vocals, losing the beat, and a couple that were just "not my thing." King Arthur, I chose to comment on your post because of the "not my thing" statement. I have difficul...

Re: Dear Jury: Vote not guilty; I'll pay you! /Acquitted Reviews

Here is my critique. I appologize if I mis-spelled your names! Great music, guys. Shitload of Dolphins It's nice and clear. The guitar is relaxing and the vocals are clear and clever. I can find nothing to critique you about. Again, I try to avoid subjective elements that are a matter of preference....

Re: Et ils pissent comme je pleure (Amsterdam Reviews)

The violin seems to add fidelity but the vox and bongos detract from that a bit Pedro, thanks for the review and the critique. It's going to be interesting to try more things and different styles. At the time of this recording I was working with the bare minimum of what I had. Bongos and the limita...

Re: Et ils pissent comme je pleure (Amsterdam Reviews)

I've been listening to some of the Amsterdam tracks by various artists. I'll have more time when I'm at work on a faster connection but in the meantime I'm really pleasantly surprised at the variation in solutions for this song fight. This is my first fight so I'm going to be very experimental; I th...
