Re: How to live your life with (Almost No Regrets reviews)

Add - Love the warm and fuzzy feeling here, the synth textures here feel like a warm blanket. The vocoder-y thing is a strange choice but works weirdly well. The bridge chord changes come out of left field in a great way. I was worried when I saw the length of the song but the whole last half of th...

Re: Video songs

First off, they're a pain in the ass. But after some practice, they become fairly brainless. I'm going to skip the artistic side, since it looks like you're more after the mechanical. I use Premiere Pro, which should be similar to Elements. I'm out of town and don't have it in front of me, so this i...

Long time no see! This is my 10 year anniversary of stumbling headfirst into Song Fight, so like an alcoholic coming back for just one drink, let's do this thing! Josh Woodward [/url] Hey, I know this guy! I made a VideoSong (what you see is what you hear, and vice versa) of my entry: http://www.you...

Re: Maalox Moments (Stomach For it Reviews)

It was brought to my attention that this was my 5 year Songfightaversary, so what the hell, here's one for old times' sake. :) Paco del Stinko - Great sound out right off the bat. Ominous, tight and unique. The 80's hair metal lead stabs in the verses are hilarious. That bass tone is ferocious, espe...

I have the most luck going direct in (with a direct box or high-z input) and using an amp emulator like Amplitube. For what I do, it sounds better and it gives you the flexibility to tweak the tone after the fact. It also makes punching in a breeze because punching pre-processing is much cleaner. If...

If they were usually posted on time, that would be a nifty idea.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have just plain old email announcements? More people would benefit from them (I wanted them when I was fighting), and power users could route them to their phones or whatever else if they wanted to.

FWIW, I manage a phpBB-driven board elsewhere, and we did get flood-posted once. Basically, the delay between posts serves two purposes: 1: keep people with annoying spammy auto-submit scripts from flooding the board (a 30-second delay makes the difference between seeing two posts a minute versus h...

iPodder doesn't, but <a href="http://azureus.sf.net/">Azureus</a> does - it's a BitTorrent client with an embedded RSS scraper (actually two to choose from). I use it to subscribe to legaltorrents.com's music section, as well as a few other sources of media. If iPodder doesn't support it,...

Huh? Torrents don't make any sense unless iPodder or whatever RSS reader knows how to fetch torrents (I'm assuming it doesn't). And even then, it's just another unnecessary step. The whole point of podcasting is simplicity for the end user - the SongFight songs magically show up on your iPod without...

I'm experimenting with Steinberg's ME multiband compressor, on vocals. These are the settings I'm working with at the moment: 0Hz-200Hz - reduce by 6dB 201-1kHz - unchanged 1kHz-5kHz - increase by 3dB 5kHz-10kH - increase by 9dB 10kHz-24kHz - increase by 6dB They do make vocals clearer and less 'mu...

Scoring Key: (Production, Performance, Song) Somebody without ID3 tag (7, 6, 6) Tenacious D this ain't, but it's kinda fun. It could use a little more interest than Am-E over and over again. Nothing changes - if you're going to be that repetitive with the chord change, it needs to really move somewh...

Scoring Key: (Production, Performance, Song) Andre WHAM (6, 6, 6) There are little snippets I like, such as where the bass guitar comes in, and the fact that the song is in an unexpected swing feel. Somebody without ID3 tags (7, 7, 5) Clever 80s + Britney transposition. Definitely not a keeper, but ...

That's not my impression of what would be done. Basically, in my mind, you'd have an RSS file that changes once per week. It would have one <item> per song, each with its own enclosure for the MP3 link. When the podcast scraper sees the new file, it'll download all of the MP3 files separately and co...

Band compression is a happy thing indeed. But there are no rules. Play around for a few hours (or days.. or years..) and see what sounds good. I find it especially useful for putting the smack down on rogue transients around the 200hz muddy range of doom. One other related thing I've been playing ar...

I don't know jack about maintaining an electric, but as for the strings, try Elixirs. They last longer, and the string coating kills the noise that you mention and speeds up playing without having to spray goop on them. Wipe your strings after every use to get the finger oils off. And since the unwo...
