Re: It packs a wallop (Spiked Punch prefight)

Doing some last minute vocals for the return of Phlebia ft Sweeney Toad. So glad to be part of this track! Getting drunk and playing Punch Out on the NES was totally part of college life for me lol My original idea for this title was to make a song about Chun Li from Street Fighter and her "Spiked ...

Re: Rest In Peace

I doubt anyone else (other than Robyn) know who he was, but LeRoy White died on Monday. A relatively obscure musician who nonetheless meant a lot to me and pretty much everyone who knew him. https://www.newportri.com/story/news/local/2021/04/29/popular-newport-remembered-friends/4879069001/ RIP LeRo...

I'm in, unusually early. Somebody suggested that I try to write a contemporary pop song. I tried, but I ended up with something rap-adjacent instead.
Well contemporary pop often IS pretty rap-adjacent to be fair.

Sounds like my early twenties. I also have a video game related idea, not sure yet if I want to actually do it but we will see.
You want some bars? I've got space for them. Very sparse flow.

Re: It packs a wallop (Spiked Punch prefight)

Well I've got a bassline and a drum track and am trying out a new setting on my distortion pedal. Wife told me to write a song about getting shitfaced and playing Mike Tyson's Punchout and I like her idea so I'm gonna do it.

Re: The stairway to heaven leads to (A Long Plastic Hallway reviews)

Atoning for not reviewing last week’s fight by being the first to review this week’s fight: Wuxtry - The guitar riff here immediately made me think of the chorus melody of Play That Funky Music -- “lay down the boogie, and play that funky music till you die”. Obviously the rest of the song doesn’t f...

Re: I drink alone because (I'd Rather Drink With The Devil reviews)

Phlebia - woah that's some strong riffing in the intro. I like it. The instruments in this all sound great. Your vocal seems a bit bored though, like you don't want to be singing. I'd love it if you really shouted at me. It gets my vote though for making me sit up and listen. Heh..."slacker 90s bor...

I kind of thought about that. Perhaps I should have tried to rap it. I'm not much of a rapper, though.

I implore you to rap.
Every time I've tried it's just been a complete shapeless, rhythmless mess.
It doesn't matter if you add enough bass.

Phlebia: I. Love. This. Riff. I also love Helmet and I love this song! Gritty and nasty in all the right ways. You've nailed everything I love but for one thing: I realllllllly want to hear the screams and growls to match the instruments. Totally niticking though, this was my favorite in the fight....

Yeah, all good, Lunk. All good with you too, I hope. I've just been reminiscing of late. Went back and listened to some of the old BLT and BatP music. It's funny how when you're in the thick of it, you don't realize how much music you've made until you step back. I forgot all the things I hated abo...

Re: I'd Rather Drink With the Devil

Phlebia This song is about the time my wife got stung by a southern devil scorpion and I got pissed at it and drowned it with a hose Camouflaged on the top soil She felt the sting and she recoiled Her hand went numb, no feeling Cherry red, not so appealing "My finger's burning, lit up like a torch,...

Re: Forget Elvis, (I’d Rather Drink With The Devil prefight)

As usual, saving the vocals for the last bit cause they're usually the thing I have the least ideas for what do with. I can't quite tame this one particular frequency I don't like in my guitar tone but I'll probably fight with it a bit more. Mixing is hard.

Okay I've got a tightly wound snare drum and some Helmet-ey riffing. Need to do my vox and flesh out a jammy part.

I drowned a southern devil scorpion with a hose last summer after it stung my wife. So I have lyric material I suppose.

I'm most impressed by EmKayDeeBee's managing to get both a #1 and a #33 rating in the same contest. Ha ha, it’s certainly quite something huh?!
