Re: Carpenters Coverfight?

Hey, thanks for the reviews everyone. Haven't been around Songfight much recently due to ridiculous over-commitment musically and otherwise. Specially wanted to respond to this from RangerDenni: SPORTSWRITERS: This was almost TOO well done, which is kind of a horribly silly thing to say. I have the ...

Re: My caffeine intake, however, is not (That's Enough Revie

I've been listening to this fight in my truck and don't have my reviews yet but I did want to say that I quite liked the Dejected Motives track, or at least I liked it a LOT more than the previous DM stuff, even with the distortion.. The brain-pounding kick drum sort of did it for me. However, I hop...

Re: Carpenters Coverfight?

Hey thanks I actually did change the key but I should have notched it up another tone I think. I always choose a key that's too low when I strum along on the acoustic and then when it's time to sing out I find it's too low. I totally missed that the bass is playing C under that Bb... would be much b...

Re: 9th Annual Gift of Music

A couple of you put up lists made of youtube links. It might be good to give the song titles and band names for each one. Sure. Mine were: Magazine - Shot by both Sides Alex Harvey Band - Next (itself a [translated] cover of a Jacques Brel song) Fatback Band - (Are you ready to do the) Bus Stop Aim...

Re: Carpenters Coverfight?

Not having done one of these before -- are reviews welcome? Where to post -- here or on the comments on the site?

Re: My caffeine intake, however, is not (That's Enough)

Damn, I was sick and couldn't make this. It's a fine title/concept. My idea was around "You drink yourself to sleep but it's not enough", "A different girl every night but it's not enough" etc and I had a schweet tune too. Looking forward to the entries, anyway.

Re: 9th Annual Gift of Music

His is very distinctively *his.* did you ever record yours for any reason? :) No, but it's one of a bunch of covers I mean to record in 2012... One the of the odd things for me about the song is that because I only listened to the Cocteau version and didn't have the lyrics, I only had the words tha...

Re: Carpenters Coverfight?

Yeah mine was almost the end of me too. VERY liberal use of timestretching to finally get everything in time. Had to beatmap the whole friggin' song to figure out the timing of the pushes in the choruses.

Well, not really. My buddies and I did a one-off gig on Canada Day this year as CAPTAIN CANADA, which was basically us playing every Canadian hit record from about 1970 to 2010, some of it on the back of a haywagon in a parade. It was somewhat epic. Now we've been asked to do a xmas gig as CAPTAIN C...

Re: 9th Annual Gift of Music

'Song to the Siren' (most coverable song of his on a fantastic entire-album..I have other album favorites!) Tim Buckley from Star Singer http://youtu.be/2pxvXI1i9cw Ooh, yeah, that's an amazingly singable song. I learned it earlier this year to sing as part of a solo acoustic set. I only really kne...

Re: the last review of a song etc. (the last afternoon revie

I'd much rather not hear the title than hear it awkwardly crammed in to the lyric somewhere.

I like an oblique connection.

The very first line is a Yoda line?
