Well, the thing with the FireBox finally worked out. I wound up trying out 3 PCMCIA cards for the laptop before one worked. I've been testing it to make sure, but no dropouts in the last few weeks. The preamp on the FireBox isn't giving me much volume, but that's okay since I have a TubePRE in line ...

Copyright status of vocal tracks, Television and otherwise
Question for you gentlemen/ladies/neuter, I know a fair amount about licensing copyrighted works for audio and video, but what does one need to do for a vocal sample from something such as Carl Sagan's Cosmos? We'd be willing to pay license, but not sure who to contact or how to go about it. We real...

Yeah, the sample rates are the same. The program doesn't usually let you record if they aren't. I've tried it in multiple programs too. I called Presonus, they told me that even though my internal was TI, that was the problem and to buy another card. I just bought a PCMCIA card I was told was TI and...

Total fragmentation is at 9%, not enough to matter. Still haven't heard back so I'll call tomorrow and we'll work it out. I'm excited to hear if it's really any different than my MobilePre in terms of quality. I'll have to do a blind ear test and let you know. Side question: I need a short (2ft) xlr...

FL really is a quality tool that doesn't deserve the bad rap it gets. It's very simple and smooth and handles all your vst plugs with ease. Keep in mind that if you're setting up your own drums, there are a few plugs that allow that slight variation to add realism. Other people notice more than I do...

I think I'm going to call in this eve or tomorrow, waiting for email just isn't working out. Thankfully I don't need this to work immediately, but I tried again last night. At even a 10ms latency, I get a regular skipping on playback. Almost like a scratched cd. Real weird. Hopefully the tech folk w...

My machine is tweaked to the prescribed things, yes, but why should I have to tweak for one lousy audio stream. I can stream in mini DV to my p3 1Ghz laptop no problem and this one will run Half Life 2 at nearly 30fps a sec. Just seems ridiculous. They assumed it was my Firewire chipset, but I have ...

Presonus FireBox dropouts/pops/clicks?
Well, I installed my new FireBox and it syncs fine and looks all good until I record. It drops out, pops, clicks, all the bad signs. I've tried everything listed on the Presonus site. Anyone else had similar? My setup: P4 3.2Ghz HT 1.5 GB ram XP Home Cubase LE, Goldwave Drops out on all latencies, a...

That's about what I've come up with too. I planned on ditching the MobilePre as well and getting a decent preamp and 24-bit interface to replace the former setup. I'm never working with more than 2-channel so the Firepod and MOTU were a bit of overkill for my needs was all. I've found a few things t...

I've been trying out Crystal lately. It's pretty cool I must say. Sytrus is pretty good too, considering getting the license so I can at least save the tracks I'm making. There seem to be a ton of them out there at varying cost and quality. Hard when the synth costs more than anything else you're us...

Quality preamp utilized with firewire/usb interface?
Well, I've been using a MobilePre for the last 6 months and it's great, don't get me wrong, but I'm wondering if there's a way to integrate a good preamp with a fw/usb interface to take advantage of real tube technology. For 110 bucks the MobilePre does it all, but if you want to step up your game w...

Absynth, Sonik Synth, Kantos, etc.
Ladies and gents, I'm looking for a new synth to toy with and I've heard decent things about Absynth and Sonik. Any takes here? Just need some clean instruments, good options, and an interface that doesn't make me blind. It's that or buy sample cds and that gets tedius and expensive

I've found that the smaller stores often are more willing to deal if you play your cards right, even if the original price was higher than a big box store. They want your business, your loyalty, and will cut out profit for it often times. They get enough suckers that pay sticker to make up for it. T...
