Sam Raimy: "Okay we need a scene where spidey has lost himself in the suit and all of the naughty personality traits are coming out, we need him to be rude and crude and so hard to handle. We also need to show how that affects the way people respond to him. Especially women." Little 12-yea...

Fred Friendly seminars

There were a couple people who were interested when I posted about the Ethics in America series where they gather political heavyweights together and force them to confront a hypothetical situation... 6 more episodes of that have now been made using more recent figures and are about to be released. ...

Why set a precedent for ungraceful losing when we've only just begun? What you failed to quote was that I wished everyone good luck, and I meant that. I wouldn't say that's ungraceful. Also if I were an ungraceful loser I would have to mind losing. I lose every time I enter songfight. Many times I ...

Oh well, looks like everyone *completely* missed the joke in my song and took the sampling/"plagiarism" too seriously. I thought it was a pretty clever and funny idea, but whatever.

Good luck to the rest of you...

almost everyone wrote: what's the deal with your song?
Everything in my song was at least second or third hand of something else, samples of sampled samples and the like. Even the lyrics.

"I can give you what you want... but you've got to just let me in."

The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society

This album is just wonderful beyond wonderful. Spectacularly melodic and wonderful harmonies all on top of a healthy helping of dirt and fuzz. And there's a great sense of humour that peaks out occassionally to great effect. And this was recorded in 1968. Incidentally, there's a song on here (Big Sk...

I'm training for my first triathlon. On Mondays that means I run 3 miles then swin 1/2 mile. At work (http://www.sbri.org) I have 4 million data points from three different experiments and I'm trying to develop some sort of statistical transformation so that I can compare data from each experiment a...

I always thought it was weird that English accent = ancient. The Romans and the Greeks both probably spoke with an accent closer to modern Greek than modern British English, right? In general ancient = British mainly because epic historical drama = shakespeare. In this case, though, I think that th...

A+ A subtle movie with sublime touches. This movie is about what it means to be a writer. This movie is actually similar in many respects to Fight Club in the way that the story is told and the mixture of literary and cinematic storytelling techniques. In addition, in both of these movies you...

I think Dylan is not a terribly amazing singer, but (even beyond his songwriting) we could all take a clinic from him in how to turn a mundane voice into an instrument of power. Incidentally I think Mason Jennings out-Dylan's Dylan in that respect.

To anyone's knowledge have there ever been any serious studies done on software pricing policies, anti-piracy policies, and income over the lifespan of a product? I have a hypothesis: There are laws that, if always followed absolutely, would actually harm society. But the interplay of human behaviou...
