Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!

Jimmy Page played the lead on "Stairway to Heaven" on a 1959 Telecaster given to him by Jeff Beck when he joined the Yardbirds. I love my Strat but I love Teles too.

Re: Goodbye Blue Lang

Wow... Dennis emailed me this evening to give me the news, and I an absolutely shocked! I was the last bass player for sonofsupercar, and though we only played together for ~6 months I can confirm everything that has been said about Blue in these posts. Blue was an incredible musician, badass drumm...

And here I thought I was special when he made me fish tacos at his house. He loved his fish tacos. And Florida football.

Very sad news. I had the pleasure of meeting Blue at Santa Cruz in 06. Great bloke.
He did so much to support those 2 live shows, including shlepping a lot of gear to and from Mountain View. He was a one man roadie wrecking crew.

Re: Blue Lang Hxaro

Blue was also part of Japantown Three http://songfight.org/artistpage.php?key=japantown_three, which was Blue, myself, and Jack Shite I think? I remember the little practice space we worked on the song in, but I don't remember if it was for an SFL or what. Yup I posted the story of this in the othe...

Re: Blue Lang Hxaro

Back-in-the-day Song Fight legend Blue Lang passed away. Some folks expressed interest in a musical tribute. Let's do it! I think most of his Song Fight entries were with his band sonofsupercar but he's got a few more in there and maybe some of you know about ones the rest of us don't. Maybe also f...

Re: Goodbye Blue Lang

I'd even credit Blue with bringing "collaborations" to SF. I know some people worked together on songs (like the Lancaster folks) but Blue was the guy who started the IRC (SF Chat). And we used to hang out in there and people would collaborate because they could now chat in real time. It's where I h...

Re: Goodbye Blue Lang

I'm in complete shock. The guy was a beast. And he influenced early SF so much. If he liked your stuff you got tingles. If he hated it you wore it like a badge or ran away. He was brutally blunt and honest and the fucking essence of Song Fight! He loved this place and he loved the community here. Th...

Happy birthdays Ken, Glenn, and Fluffy! If there was a SF "Hall of Fame", you guys (and gal!) would be part of the inaugural class!

Oh, that's a good point, I hadn't looked at the originating site.

FWIW, for the last little while when Jack Shite was still running it as a weeklyish thing on its own site, he was mostly picking sample packs and a capellas from ccMixter.org.

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

Or you could have a "Spud's Happy Hour" where Spud plays host to videos people send him. I think you get the idea. It needs show runners and themes. I have been wanting to get back in the game and looking for a way. I had fun doing the live show and making the voting widget. I have recently done a ...

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

So this is just my opinion but I think the next logical step for this new Song Fight! video channel thing is to have someone do a themed weekly show, or monthly, or something "regular" (vs. "one off") people will ultimately subscribe to. For example, maybe someone does a monthly "Best Of Song Fight!...

Re: Was Song Fight Live your first gig?

SF! Live, to which I've thus far only attended once, was not my first gig. It was, however, the first and only time I stood alone and performed with guitar and vocals. (I never insult singers by calling what I do singing) The bands I played in wisely left vocals to others. I'd love to, and hope to,...

Re: Was Song Fight Live your first gig?

I think the first Song Fight! related live show I did was with Eric at Ken's old house in the Berkeley Hills above the football stadium. Can't remember the year, maybe 2003 or 2004. Fun times! First time I met Song Fight! people in person. Played a couple Accordian shows and SFL shows after that. Er...

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

So just one old timer's opinion but let me be the first to say that the first virtual Song Fight! Live event went over pretty fucking well! I know a lot of work went into it so thanks to everyone who made it happen. I thoroughly enjoyed it. People could have given up on SFL this year and instead the...

Hey major praise to Glenn Case for his Brother Machine tribute. And to everyone that participated. But especially Glenn. That medley at the end might have been the single most impressive songfighty thing I've ever seen (or heard). Good job dude.

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

I mean, I basically think you guys could do this for another month, I'm sure some people need to work up to it but they would if they could. Or maybe just do once a month after? I know doing livestreams is a PITA though, so I get it, but it kind of feels like you're just starting to build a little ...
