Re: What was that? (Disembodied Voice reviews)

Be negative, sure. Be mean, fine. But put some effort in it. And own it.

No-one forced you to read it, or comment on it, but if you are going to dismiss every review you disagree with as "whining" then this conversation is over. And sadly, you proved my point. j$
Sure, keep ignoring what I'm complaining about and pretend the problem is that I disagree with you.

Specifically aimed at you :} And then you joke about how your comment was simultaneously directed at everyone and no one. No I don't. And also, whining about reviews ? Grow a pair. If you can whine about songs no one forced you to listen to, I can whine about a lazy, mean-spirited post that doesn't...

Re: What was that? (Disembodied Voice reviews)

I always wonder how to strike a balance in reviews between being constructive, honest, respectful, and enthusiastic when possible. Arguably being negative but specific is the most respectful you can be because of the work you have to put in. And it can give you something useful. But dismissing a fig...

Re: And now you see (How It Comes Apart reviews)

I'm late, so here are... not so much reviews, but random comments. Phlebia - Soothing guitar tone. I like the relaxed vibe of the vocals. It fits the arrangement and the story. There's a nice trick there where the lines sound sort of banal until you realize they're not figurative ("when they tear us...

Re: Don't wink at me (Eyes In The Dark reviews)

Owl - Cool chorus. Your singing is real nice there. The vocal is eq'd a little harshly. I like the way these guitars crunch. thanks for the review! Can you clarify what you meant as far as the harsh vocal EQ—too much high end? (I think I just put on some preset like “Mud Free” in Reaper) I don't kn...

Re: Don't wink at me (Eyes In The Dark reviews)

Some short ones: Night Sky - Fun arrangement. Some really good chord changes and transitions in there. I'm torn on the vocals. In some spots, the muttering quality is nice, but I feel the urge to hear some real belting. Owl - Cool chorus. Your singing is real nice there. The vocal is eq'd a little h...

I just tacked the Vincent Price monologue from Thriller onto the end of my track. Hope that satisfies the challenge.

Re: If we make it (Better Luck Next Year reviews)

Third Installment: Sweeney Toad - Moodly. The plodding quality has some pros and cons to it. It builds a nice atmosphere. The bowling alley and beer line seems like a bad tonal fit. Switching to the other vocal style is smart for variety's sake. Hardmonica - Thick sound. There are a lot of good voca...

Re: If we make it (Better Luck Next Year reviews)

Second Installment: Cavedwellers - Cool riff, especially that line that sometimes extends past the chords. The vocal sounded way too loud but then I realized I was listening on my computer monitor's speaker again. Better on the headphones, so must be a mono/stereo thing. Could still stand to be lowe...

Yeah, this is a good comment. It turned out as more of a wash than I'd wanted, but I hadn't thought of making the notes jump around in stereo, which would probably be awesome.

Re: If we make it (Better Luck Next Year reviews)

First installment: Paco: I didn't quite buy the title line the first time, but it clicked once the whole band was behind it. Probably the intended effect. Once the band came in, I was said for them to go because I knew it meant I'd have to wait to hear the chorus again. I could've used a lot more of...

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

Nevertheless, as did the early hosts of SF!L, someone needs to lead the way, create a flexible "template", and be available as the default host to ensure that it continues when there are no such volunteers. I am working (with others) on such a template, and am willing to be that default host. I wil...

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

My humble suggestion: I think SF!L works and happens every year because we just need to convince one person a year to take it on. Whatever the format of a regular broadcast, it should be easy for any given volunteer to claim and execute an instance.

Re: Not much to do but (Sitting In The Life Boat reviews)

I think maybe the thing with my synth patch is its burbly attack and how it puts too much weight on the rhythm SI TTING IN THE. I chose the patch for the interlude between verses, and it works better there. Paco, I spaced the optional challenge completely in my song and in my reviews. Props for tack...

Re: Not much to do but (Sitting In The Life Boat reviews)

add - Laid back but not lazy. The beat is somehow almost wrong to my ears, I don't understand why. Regardless, a pleasant chorus and warm vocals sell this easily, along with the tasty right amount synths. I like the blend of synth into guitar there, very nice. I'm interested if others heard the sam...
