Re: Oh Yeah? Take it Back! (reviews)

Just have time for first impressions as I listen through. Barbies on the BBQ This mix rather hurts my head, though there's some really cool elements to it, namely the crazy ass effects on the vox in the chorus. Everything sounds underwater. That said, the song is pretty cool, and seems very 80s. Voc...

Re: Two different songs!

Something something reference mixes. But seriously, reference mixes are a great way to get a feel for whether what you're doing is way off base or not. Find some songs that have a similar vibe to what you're doing and compare your mix to theirs on a variety of categories. Find a mix that is as brigh...

Re: UPDATED: All you need is to write a song (pre-fight)

I'm in again this week after having started my song at 8 last night and finished at 3:30 this morning. I need to start finding inspiration earlier in the week.

Good to see Melvin back too.

Re: Not suitable for vampires (Harsh Light of Day reviews)

Alright, I gave these a listen around the time they went up, and now I'll review whilst listening through again. So here's my second impressions. Airlines - cool acoustic riff, and the lead works nicely too. Vox don't fit at all due to the excessive verb. Fairly catchy chorus. I dug the percussion a...

Re: Harsh Light of Song Fight! (pre-fight)

Done and done. I really thought lyrics were going to prevent me from finishing yet another songfight song this time, but I managed to shit some out and finish my first song in over 3 years.

Well, so much for that. I didn't really have time to do my song justice tonight, so I'll not be in this week. If only inspiration had struck before yesterday.

Looks like I'll be in. I've got the basics recorded, though I had a lot of ideas to bring some flavor to the song that I might not have time to get done tonight.

Here's drum cam footage from andrew (Reist) recording drums for the Big Clucker entry. You can see his cymbal fastener go flying across the kit as he plays.

Re: Don't Bore Us With Your Boron Rodviews. (Boron Rod Reviews)

Thanks for the comment. The drums were acoustic, I believe it was a Sonor kit I had rented for a few clients at the time. Here's more than you probably wanted to know about how I mic'd it. My typical micing which I probably used is Audix D6 on the kick placed inside a bit off center and 2 to 6 inche...

Re: If it's in the cloud, can I still listen to it? (prefight)

I'm in. I didn't look up the title reference. Whatdyeknow, it's an actual thing. But yay, my entry actually could sound like I did know what it meant. Anyway, here's the thing. My entry is an INSTRUMENTAL, ok? I don't feel like singin'. But I want to play. So there it is. Here's my attempt at provi...

I'll be in with Reist on drums with a bit of a departure from standard songfight fare.

Banjo Tooie fans will be thrilled by our submission.

Re: Don't Bore Us With Your Boron Rodviews. (Boron Rod Reviews)

Well, I've been quite busy as of late, so I really only had time to write my thoughts as I listened to these songs for the first time. Berkeley Social Scene: This is good. I think I read something about your singer sounding disinterested, and I agree. This reminds me strongly of something from the 9...

Re: Spare the Rod...(Boron pre-fight)

After nearly 2 years since writing my last song, I have finished my entry for this fight. I wish I had had more time to work on it, and that I didn't have place-holder takes in the final version, but it ain't bad.

A 40cm tsunami hit the north-east corner of the North Island a few hours ago. It won't be noticed here in Taranaki. Is it just me, or does a 40cm tsunami really not sound all that bad? That's not much more than a foot. Granted, that's enough water to soak your shoes and the lower half of your pants...
