Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"

Congratulations to those of you who moved on to Round 1, and thank you to everyone who submitted. This was a crazy round with all of the submissions, and as some of you may notice, there was a rich diversity of opinions from the judges. We had a lot of tough decisions to make in this historically la...

Re: Nur Ein XV

I guess I should clarify since I didn't mention titles per se that to me that's part of the artistic concept. As an example, Duboce Triangle's "Stronger Than" was a song where D and I (mostly D) decided to write a lyric about Paganini and Beethoven wrestling, WWF-style. So the lyric tells that prett...

Re: Nur Ein XV

Luckily if you boil mine down, all I really said is, make good songs, and I don't know what that is, so you can hold me to that as much you want

Re: Nur Ein XV

the worst part is that I just realized Glenn is now going to record a dozen shadow entries per fight in which every song has one track that's just a few cents out of tune and make me listen to them

Re: Nur Ein XV

Judging Credo Hi guys, the judges talked about posting statements on how we judge, because it’s something that we thought might be helpful for the competitors. As I’ve been thinking about it, the more I’m finding how difficult it is really to talk about though, because probably like most people, I l...

Re: One Two Three (Four Corners prefight)

No, never compiled one. Recording-wise for the last few years most of my appearances have been on Glenn Case stuff, I was mostly going live gigging and not recording. But that seems to have flipped back around recently haha.

Re: One Two Three (Four Corners prefight)

Everytime I see something written or hear someone say some version of the phrase "I am in" all I hear is Andy Garcia yelling "Take Zaza out!!!!!!" I know, I have problems. Also, I should note that I'm a guitar whore and if I have time I'll likely play guitar on anyone's song. I guess that makes me a...

Re: Look at these cool (Secret Handshake Reviews)

I'm sure G-Case will comment about the rest of the song on his own, but for Skeleton Key and Secret Handshake, these Case songs have had guitar solos from me, so thanks for your kind words and also if you have any abuse, he doesn't deserve it, I do. Which is why I'm planning to record a ten minute g...

Re: I definitely know it (Secret Handshake prefight)

You know that one of the great things about Chinese hot pot is that you can get it in the Yin Yang cauldron, which is half one soup and half a different soup, and with a divider that splits the cauldron in halves. That is sort of like two soups, one cauldron, yet they are not mixed at all (missoupge...

Mmm, two soups. My family does that every Christmas.
what's your soups?

I make a pretty mean seafood chowder. I also will always use my roast chicken carcasses for soups that are pretty awesome.

Re: I definitely know it (Secret Handshake prefight)

When someone says "two chords at the same time" I tend to think of that as a keyboard way of thinking, where I know some people don't, for example, think Fmaj9, instead they think "Fmaj triad (F A C) on the left hand and Cmaj (C E G) triad on the right hand." As a guitar player, that seemed nonsensi...

I am not in LA, but you should know that I still listen to Stronger Than because it's one of the best songs ever, so thank you.
Wow, I didn’t see this earlier, what a nice thing to say. Thanks Gozo!

Re: Who is in Los Angeles?

yes, this thread has been surprisingly useless. I guess I could contact State Shirt--we're linked on other social media anyway. Maybe I can scam some sweet-ass Strymon pedals out of him hahahahahaha (I stan Strymon btw, I love my Flint and El Capistan)

Re: Don't get pricked on all of the (Porcupine Reviews)

Sure all that’s true, and there’s also the consideration of what kind of vibrato we’re talking about, as the usual cello (for me, violin) vibrato and electric guitar vibrato are quite different techniques. The subtlety vs bigness of the vibrato, as it were, change of velocity, timing, etc. While you...

Re: Don't get pricked on all of the (Porcupine Reviews)

I liked the solo, JB, it’s just ever since I got called out by the old cat about playing long sustained notes without vibrato, I started not being able not to notice it. I tend to do no do vibrato when I’m thinking too much about what to do next, so I’m not fully in the moment and details of playing...
