Re: Awesome Music (related) Videos
I trawl archive.org a lot for footage to use in music videos, and recently I happened upon a treasure trove of "Al TV": https://archive.org/details/ALTVComplete When I was a teenager back in the mid-to-late 80s, every other year or so Weird Al Yankovic would take over MTV for a few hours a...

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
The Crappiest Fender Telecaster: Here's my Telecaster, which I bought used in 2014. It's the shittiest version ever made with the Fender name. The story I heard was that sometime in the 90s Fender had a bunch of extra parts they shipped to Mexico, and the factory slapped them together and labeled t...

Re: Original Flava Coverfight - Video Edition
Oh geez, I can't let an Original Flava go by without participating. If it's not too late, at least half of Jerkatorium is in: Jerkatorium Jerkatorium feat. Micah Sommersmith Miscellaneous Jerk Matchy Matchy (Note: If the cover song and video ends up being generated by only half of Jerkatorium, the c...

Adventureland for the TRS-80
Hey do you remember playing text adventures on a TRS-80? No of course you don't, because you were born after the Ottoman Empire dissolved. You've never known a time before the polio vaccine, before movies had sound, before Oklahoma gained US statehood (still a mistake, IMO). But if, like me, you are...

Re: Where would you move to if <not your candidate> wins in November?
As for the general notion of moving away when someone terrible gets elected, I can’t help but think of a verse from Andrew Jackson Jihad’s song “Lady Liberty”: Give me your tired, give me your tired, give me your poor When our government acts like this, I don't wanna live here anymore Sure I could b...

Re: Where would you move to if <not your candidate> wins in November?
I tried to move to Canada in 2011 - not due to problems with the administration at that time, but due to immigration issues. We were not considered legally married in the US, so my husband’s status was at risk. We figured the safest way to remain in North America would be to move to Canada, where ou...

Re: Acoustic Guitar Recommendations
Thanks a ton Pigfarmer Jr and Sober for all of that info and advice. I think you're both right, I should look for safe opportunities to try guitars out before buying, since I'll be living with whichever guitar I choose for several years. I looked into craigslist, but most of the sellers seem to be s...

Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!
Happy belated anniversary, Song Fight! Many many years ago I read a sci-fi novel called “Steel Beach” by John Varley. If I remember right, at one point the protagonist is stranded on a desert island for a year, and during that time he builds himself a large comfortable house and all its furnishings....

Re: Acoustic Guitar Recommendations
Any additional practical advice for buying an acoustic guitar online for $600 or less? 30 years ago I borrowed an Applause acoustic guitar from a family member, and I just returned it a couple of weeks ago. One of the main reasons I returned it was because I wasn’t happy with the tone, especially af...

If anyone still needs a guest vocalist I'm willing, please PM me.
Having said that, please note that Chumpy is Jerkatorium's lead vocalist for good reason: I am not a good singer and would prefer to supply a harmonized or vocoder (your choice) vocal guest spot if called upon.

Ugh. Let me show the math as I see it: That word is inherently associated with a female body part. More often than not, when that word is used, it is used as a negative epithet. When that word is used as a negative epithet the user is reinforcing a negative association with the female body part, whe...

I'm sure whatever stragglers are left don't need any additional encouragement or pressure but: A Two Jerks One Vote Gift of Music review podcast is in the works, scheduled to be recorded tomorrow. Re: Gift of Music - COVID-19 Special Edition!
This GoM was great, and I love these covers, and I love being introduced to bands and songs I'd never heard of (Courtney Barnett, Drab Majesty, Better Oblivion Community Center, etc etc etc)... but why don't we do an Original Flava instead and cover other SongFighters? I like the idea of giving a ra...

Ryan, I’m disappointed! Mandibles DID have a song last round- You are Free! Though, that one was sung by Truth, so maybe you thought it was faster Jackelope? Crap, how did I miss that? Of course I know that song, and I enjoyed that song immensely. We do some preparation/research prior to reco...

Re: Songfighter Videos on YouTube
Nice video, Jerks. The lip syncing lines up so well, did that take a long time? Also, those pauses are so good! Thank you, and yes, it did take some time. But most of our time was spent trying to extend the word "of" out to several syllables, which was obviously the best part of the song.
