Re: Nur Ein XV Round Four "Carte Blanche"

I forgot to mention in my liner notes that I did one of my favourite things with the bass line, which is to to eschew any logical choices and write it from the melodic line of an existing song, in this case, my favourite of the Bond themes.

Re: NUR EIN XV - Carte Blanche

When Owl made that joke about The Best Ever Death Metal Bond In Denton I couldn't get it out of my head. It's so silly but I thought I could do something with it. I also couldn't get the Cate Blanchett / Carte Blanche line out, and this song was born. Wadeye is a remote Indigenous community in the ...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Four "Carte Blanche"

Sure, I’m not going to win Nur Ein being that I was eliminated in Round Zero, but now feels like a good time to mention that, twenty years ago, I won a Nintendo 64 at our work Bond-themed Christmas party, where I was the only person who turned up in head to toe gold paint. I gave the Nintendo to my ...

Black Lives Matter.

This is about politics, music and current events, and I didn’t quite know where to put it but didn’t want to bury it in the Modern Democracy thread. I expect there won’t be much of a discussion because I can’t imagine anyone here is in favour of racism and police brutality. But then again, the video...

Re: Modern democracy (was: COVID-19 freakout thread)

"The Australian" is probably fine if it just a news story. I am just surprised that you have access to it, but Uncle Rupe paywalls it here. I get paywalled in Ireland (if I ever accidentally click a link before realising it’s The Goddamn Australian). I’m not sure if it’s because my browser still ge...

I have to say I was super happy when News Corp brought in the paywall because it forced me to stop giving Andrew Bolt hate clicks.

Re: Modern democracy (was: COVID-19 freakout thread)

BTW - you linked to "The Australian". Can you see that over there? It is behind a firewall here - I can't see your link. Not that I want to - The Australian is owned by that American fellow - Mr Rupert Murdoch. There are still a few proper journalists who write news there - but mainly it is just a ...

An added note: today is the anniversary of the Mabo High Court land rights decision that determined the declaration of “terra nullius” by British invaders upon landing in Australia was a straight up lie. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mabo_v_ ... and_(No_2)

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

My mix was bothering me and I like my song enough that I wanted to fix it, so I actually went back in instead of just thinking about going back in like I normally do. Raised all the vocal levels a touch because I think I reactively went too far in the opposite direction this round, added some more d...

Re: Mixing on headphones

One thing I've found helpful recently was some advice I saw on youtube to chuck a Direction Mixer on the stereo track, take out all the width and turn it off/on from time to time to make sure your decisions still sound good when heard in mono. I haven't done it so much recently but am going to start...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

Hot Pink Halo - This is mostly pretty fun and I enjoyed hearing Toshiro's voice again. The vocal rhythm sometimes feels a little robotic though (2nd verse especially), and the mix gets a little chaotic later on. Ha! Maybe my one line of liner notes was not explicit enough... (or my attempt at robot...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

For interests sake, if anyone missed it last week, my Chupacabra shadow entry utilised the title as an acrostic poem. Shoehorning the word itself into a song about an actual monstrous person committing genocide felt inappropriate.
