Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

Real life good friends love to rip on each other (in a hopefully funny way) not flatter each other. I generally think that too but for a while now I have started to think that may be a generational thing, and the whole "tearing you down to toughen you up" vibe I had/have with my siblings/friends wa...

Re: Covering random songs from the archive

Interesting song! I thought the singer sounded like Paco but the drums really did not. Turns out it IS Paco singing and everything but the drums I guess:

Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

I learned real quick that some things that I thought sounded fine in fact did not. Plugged-in acoustic guitar: just don't. Fake drums: avoid the uncanny valley. Singing: have good pitch or use autotune, or forget it. Flabby/farty bass: No. Muddy mixes: No. etc. etc.

General Updates

i added 20 years ago fights to the home page. I also tweaked the layout for the fight anniversaries too. Jack Shite reported that the Hxaro Covers link on the homepage was just pointing to a directory listing of files. I found the right link which is the same path but on songfight.net and updated th...

Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

My all-time favourite Song Fight tune is Forty Second Songs’ Snow Fort. It’s beautiful. I love that song too! Forty Second Songs is Jonathan Mann. We used to play that song live when I was in his band back when he lived in Berkeley for a few years. We have this weird video from when we played a set...

Don't use anything that was made prior to the announcement of the title of a fight, for a fight. This seems like it should be a side fight.

Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

Yeah, I played bass for MC Frontalot at Belladonna in Berkeley. But I think I wound up having to use somebody else's bass and/or amp and it was crap and threw me off since I was already nervous, and I felt like I did a really shit job. sonofsupercar closed the show. They weren't playing last, ...

Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

Oh yeah, I meant to post that I added "Twenty Years Ago" fights to the homepage. I also made a slight adjustment to the layout of the anniversary fights to try to keep them from taking up so much space in the right hand column now that there are four sets of fights there.

Re: Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

I'm really enjoying all these stories and notes. Thanks a lot for sharing y'all. I forgot to say how I came upon Song Fight. I was also an Exploding Dog fan, and was listening to Collin's songs on narbotic.com, and reading Diesel Sweeties. I'm pretty sure that's how I got to Song Fight. My first fig...

Oh right, doh. I noticed last night I couldn't check my email, or connect to my servers' VPN. I checked with my brother, his server crashed. He's filed a support ticket with his hosting facility to have somebody go turn it off and back on again. It'll be back eventually.

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Six "Homestretch"

Our polyrhythms happen in instrumental melodies in intro/pre-chorus/outro, and in the main vocal melody near the end of the chorus. We're doing 4/4, with the polyrhythm in 1/4 note triplets over everything else playing straight. I think that's 3 against 2 ... ???

Song Fight! Is 20 Years Old!!!

Hey folks! Yesterday marked 20 years since the start date in the archive for the very first Song Fight! "Golfpunk Drives A Cadillac". http://www.songfight.org/songpage.php?key=golfpunk_drives_a_cadillac I've posted about it on the Song Fight! Twitter and Facebook accounts too. It'd be awesome if any...

Sweetwater: Get the most out of your Shure SM7B mic

For long time or recent or future users of the Shure SM7B microphone, Sweetwater just posted a nice quick video with an overview of the mic and then some tips and suggestions for using it. Might be new info for some folks here.

Utterly fantastic actor Ian Holm, who's been in a ton of incredible and classic movies and was also a renowned stage performer, has passed at 88 from illness related to Parkinson's. :(

Re: Web based collaboration tools

Facebook has a similar sounding music video collaboration app they're working on called "Collab". I heard about it from Carol Cleveland Sings, they've been involved in early testing of it to some degree. You can see pictures/video of them (the band used to just be Thomas back when the band was doing...

Re: I'm kind o fdrink ruight now

But. Absolutely noiseless. We stand suspended with 5 feet of acoustic foam all around us. Above, below, and to the side. The only sound is ourselves. Our hearts and our joints and yes, our minds. Nothing else exists. We are the place where one can truly hear one’s self think. And it is dark. Like t...
