Re: A No Twists Original Flava Cover Fight

Alright, the only question that remains about finishing the song tonight: do I sing with the continued cold, or do I pussy out with a spoken-word rendition? STAY TUNED. third option: have my kids do the lyrics line-by-line, and then wince when they repeat the NSFW lyrics at school the next day. I ha...

Re: A No Twists Original Flava Cover Fight

Well then I'm glad I also did a cover of my original target as a just-in-case thing (after King Arthur's dire warning). I'm glad, too! I threw out what I had, started over from scratch, and I like it as an instrumental, oddly enough. Dunno if I'll have enough voice by midnight tomorrow. Time will t...

Re: A No Twists Original Flava Cover Fight

I hate to make excuses for my work, but since this is a cover of someone else's work, I feel compelled to apologize. Six weeks of time became this weekend only, thanks to work and family and a bitch of a cold that I still have, and the changing time signatures of the original are kicking my ass like...

Okay, I'm in, with both feet. Even though I have no idea who Fluffy was supposed to cover. Here's me, going to look with fingers crossed. Thanks for letting me in the back door, folks!

Re: A No Twists Original Flava Cover Fight

Aaaaaaaand once again I am too late to be part of something awesome. That's what I get for taking a vacation. (shakes fist)

Can't wait to see the entries!

Re: SF! Live 2010 Gear List

Fluffy, I'll ping you directly as well, but in the last 24 hours my ability to show up to Live has gone from 99% to 20% likely -- thanks, day job! -- so you might have to bring your piano after all. The alternative is that someone else coming up from the Los Angeles area can grab it on the way and d...

Re: Song Fight! Live San Francisco Roll Call

You want half an hour from me? You get half an hour from me. I can drop songs if needed if we're running long. The only thing I cannot promise is that I'll be entertaining for that entire half hour. Whether or not I have a backing band will largely determine this.

Re: SF in SF: 2010

I'm totally comfortable with playing on Sunday night, so long as everyone's okay with it being either me + electric uke or me + electric uke + some kind of backing band, still TBD. I'll be out there for both nights regardless, and thus so will my piano. Having said that: I'm following Jonathan Mann?...

In addition to the piano, I'm bringing an electric uke and an acoustic uke. Surprise, surprise.

We could do a live Nur Ein, where each round sees three contestants thrown off the rooftop!

Hang in there, Fluffy, I know you'll figure it out. If it all goes off the rails, maybe we'll just sit in your backyard and sing songs to make you feel better. :D

Yamaha P-120, it's nearly ten years old, but I just had the keyboard replaced a few months ago.

Re: Song Fight! Live San Francisco Roll Call

Thanks, Lunkhead! Although I may bring a surprising number of new songs, we'll see. I'm showing up, unless something in life reaches out and smacks me in the head, so I'll hopefully see you all there.

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round

Congrats, Ben, and to everyone -- I learned a lot, and it got me past a personal songwriting goal I'd never been able to crack before, so I'm grateful. Onward and forward. When's the next one? :D

We are living in parallel, apparently. I bought Half-life 2 a few days ago, and am...well, I don't know if I'm halfway through it or not. No idea. But enjoying it!

Re: Songfight Live San Francisco 2010 Musician Exchange

I have a weighted 88-key Yamaha piano that can travel, although the stand less so. If I can make it, I can drive it up with me, and if not, someone who wants to grab it on their way up the coast (and bring it back when they're done) is welcome to it. I have no idea if this is useful to anyone. Also,...

Re: Song Fight! Live San Francisco Roll Call

I remain a maybe, but an enthusiastic maybe who will stay late on Sunday just to flesh out the ranks if I can get out there. Sure do wish I could get a band together, though. Maybe I'll pre-record some accompaniment for this...

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round

I voted a while ago, but as we wait to see who won, I'm listening to "Still Alive" from the end to Portal. I'm coming to it years late (it just came out for the Mac recently) but, man it is a crazy-compelling song if you've played the game. And it opens with a ukulele. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round

Same here, just hit reply the easy-peasy way. Review-wise, I haven't been doing them, because I've been in the rounds. This time, I'll give 'em, short and sweet: BSS brought their A-game in the solid production values and excellent performances, but in my mind the songwriting itself fell short (comp...
