Re: Song Fight! Live 2016 New York July 16th and 17th

Is there a list yet for saturday? Sorry if I missed it already posted. I'll play between 1 and 3 songs, depending on how my cram session goes and how forgiving we all are of people like me who are last year's weekend warriors .. When can we load in?

Re: Prove me wrong! (No Good Can Come of This prefight)

I'm thinking power-pop.

What I should be thinking is, I get off the plane late saturday and all my studio stuff is packed in boxes from my move, to a small house without a functional kitchen, washer, or dryer yet.. oh right and no internet either..

Re: This cocaine didn't do anything for me. [No Rush Reviews

TMI*: I am on travel. I do not want to hang with my co-worker. I am too tired to see Munich. I checked my work email after 2.5 days without internet and everything in the inbox sucks. I am listening to the fight on laptop speakers from a bathtub in the hotel. The bubble bath was purchased in an enve...

Re: Songfight Live 2014 venue selection

Hi Elaine! We'll keep our fingers crossed-- would be great to see you! If it helps, you can definitely have a spot on the 15th so you can get home on the 16th to hit your conference flight on the 17th. :) Awesome! A definite maybe. You know I can't usually perform my stuff since I "don't really pla...

Re: Songfight Live 2014 venue selection

Thanks guys for pointing me here and sorry it wasn't sooner! Too bad if you're picking 15-16 august, that's difficult and 29-30 would be better. I'll have to be a maybe - will look for a definitive post of places/times since I am supposed to head to New Hampshire for a conference on sunday 17 aug. M...

Re: An explosive pre-fight thread

What, is everybody over on facebook now? I am *IN THE FIGHT* with a freshly sacrificed SF virgin in tow and a new band name. See ya in the jukebox! Coincidentally, this was in my FB feed yesterday.. proud parent was saying I think that children express their most authentic selves through art. There ...

Re: ...Step Back From That Ledge, My Friend (WYW Reviews)

I'm also now fully understanding that no one on here actually knows who I am, so hearing about me prolly isn't that interesting :D So, I once wrote a long-winded song where verse 1 told about somebody from science fiction classic #1 and verse 2 was sf book #2 and the 3rd verse was "my" issues. Peop...

Re: ...Step Back From That Ledge, My Friend (WYW Reviews)

All advice always welcome for consideration, Nobody, but I don't want to hijack the reviews thread with pages of talking about a song that no-one else cares for, so just to say the song is not really about Batman, that's a staring point for the real point of the song, and by making so many referenc...

Johnny Cashpoint - Something is not enrolling/engaging people, not enough groove, and/or not enough way into the story for the rest of us maybe. .. I find the "meh" factor it's getting most perplexing. The last time this happened to this degree was my "The Only French I Know", another song "from my...

Re: ...Step Back From That Ledge, My Friend (WYW Reviews)

Elly Lane & the Janglin' Jims ... i hear some faint buzzing in the track, is that a synth or a digeridoo? The bass line is an organ patch on the keyboard, with a phaser effect and an amp overdrive effect, both dirtying it up and making that buzz you hear. I have a lot to learn about the organ sound...

So, I have been listening since wednesday night, but just reading lyrics and getting influenced by the other reviews more or less now... Berkeley Social Scene - I like the meter, and the lilt; the vocal cadence in the chorus works well, but I wasn't taken with the verse melody or the guitar working ...

Wish You Would - Elaine DiMasi she came to my door with an earnest expression she said have you considered things are getting pretty bad and don't you think it means that there's a heaven somewhere I see by your face that you won't be saved - she didn't say you keep a nice house looks like you thin...

Adam Dachis - Yikes, that was TMI by like the third line. Can credit the straight faced delivery. add - This scritchy scratchy does have an f'n groovy start! I was digging the chord changes and the silly synths but it was kind of a letdown after the first minute, you dropped the ball on the songwri...

Re: It's a bird, It's a review thread (Look at the Sky Reviews)

Ajl Anderson - The story is fine. Guitars sound nice. Backup vocals are nice. Somehow, every part of this song takes too long - takes too long to finish the sentences - extra lines just there for rhyming, like the one about the dog, I feel like I'm waiting and waiting for it to get to the point. So...

... Any suggestions on projection? What training I had was "choral" and I'm not a strong pop singer at all, but I think I do better in projecting when I put my attention far in front of me as if an audience were there. Singing on stage with no amplification, you learn you can focus a voice-beam to ...

Lots of 5+ minutes songs this time? Pretty much my favorites were all the other ones... Architects of Desire - A good start. I thought the piano was thick-n-tasty and was giving you points for all the little variations in the lines of verse 1. Especially the fourth verse line - emotional - but somet...
