Re: x-tokyo-river-god vs. New York
I have a not very good small bass amp suitable for rehearsing. If we're coming to NJ saturday, I'll definitely be driving and it's easy to bring it. Sunday, not so sure what we're doing?

Re: Songfight NYC v2
My guess is the acoustics are "huddle in a circle". And although I think my Peavey thing might be battery-capable, that's probably not in the spirit of "no amplified instruments". I'd argue that my digital piano isn't an amplified instrument too, but with the "no vehicles" restriction I have very li...

Re: Songfight NYC v2
From the Prospect Park website: • Cricket is not allowed in Prospect Park for safety reasons. WTF!?!?!?! Is this some 200-year-old rule left over from the Revolution? At my college (Penn State) the squash courts had a big sign with numbered rules. Rule 8 was painted over - though the "8" was still ...

Re: x-tokyo-river-god vs. New York
Maybe someone can make a DVD of an excrutiatingly slow screen-saver? I like the matrix-type graphic ones, and I saw one of a kind of weird rube goldberg machine. I worry about making a video too much more interesting to look at than the band - unless that is the effect that you want? Synchronizing s...

Re: Songfight NYC v2
Re: the afternoon venue, it looks like there must be electrical outlets in that thing. Is that right? I'm leaning more strongly towards driving in, which means I could throw some gear in my car - a little Peavey singer-songwriter amp which can mix a mic and a line, and a mic and stand, say. Maybe my...

Re: Songfight NYC v2
Hi guys, I'll be around for both events. No solo set for me, though.
Mainly I should decide whether to drive or take the train in from Long Island. Having the car could be a pain, but if a bunch of people with guitars would find it helpful then maybe it's worth it. Thoughts?

I can make you one. And you can send it through the FX everyone else is proposing, too, and pick what you like.Niveous wrote:Hmmm, we can try it. Do you have a recording of what it sounds like?ElaineDiMasi wrote:I can make a mechanical, affected voice...

Re: x-tokyo-river-god vs. New York
Depends on how fake you want the voice to be. I can make a mechanical, affected voice in different ways, "naturally". I just don't think it will work as a whisper. I can definitely imitate the synth-type voices I've heard people put in recordings.

Thanks! I hope so too! Here's a link to my favorite Weather Schedule song: http://fawm.org/songs/1741/reve wrote:I looked to see if Weather Schedule had anything in the archives, but they didn't -- so I hope they enter again to give us more.
The link will last until probably july09.

Jan Krueger - I like the story and setting; good image of crashed expectations. I'm not sure what you would have done differently with more than three hours to work on it - changed the style completely? No. I'd have redone several takes which are out of rhythm in this version. Which is kind of what...

Bourbon Drops - Yay for girls being all redeemed and all when they get back from juvie! Main comment is what people keep trying to tell me - too many precious lyrics. I usually don't listen to people when they tell me that. They're right, though. Ca$ham - Not my cup of tea. Can't say why. Sorry! De...

Re: sun 29 mar 09
the first instrument i bought was this roland juno-106 (yeah, that's very different from most answers in this thread!). Oddly enough I think this is my answer too. My parents bought me my high school used woodwinds. I got a cheap casio keyboard in college but it didn't seem real, and I think I gave...

So, for years I defiantly stated that I will never learn to play a guitar. Why should I? I'll always suck. If I practice my other stuff, maybe good guitarists will hang out with me. That's it. And yes, there's a couple "borrowed" fenders in my basement, but those are just for my friends to play when...

Re: March 27th in the year 2009
I believe in genres. When I'm in the mood to listen to STP I am not in the mood to listen to Joni, even though both these artists do all kinds of different things with their songs. And just because crossover music exists, doesn't mean that the middle of these categories doesn't mean something pretty...

Re: Friday, March 20th, 2009
So, the big pile of Song Fighter CDs arrived yesterday. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how good everyone else's CD looks/feels. Where does everyone get their CDs made? I feel very underwhelmed by Discmakers in comparison. I see Elaine DiMasi used CD Centric, who I'd never heard of, but mos...

Back From Juvie - Weather Schedule I don't hate this cop - he's big - he's kind of a hunk - Keep walking ladies, this way. Right in front of me, straight line. Let's go. I don't hate that girl - she's cool - she's kind of a punk - Don't look at the girl next to you, you look at me. She will get you...

Re: Why do you make your music?
Music is very visual for me, so I use different instruments and sounds like paintbrushes to create my little slice of alternate reality. Music is not fundamentally visual for me, although I will also say I'm a "color freak" who loves to hear lots of timbres. But I have one song recorded that I clob...
