Re: 5/22/15 Van Halen
I think Hagar has a killer voice, but I submit that he is the absolute worst lyricist in all of rock music. Yeah, he's right up there. Lyrics aren't usually a big sticking point with me, but his are often awful to the point of distraction. Still trying to decide who is worse, Hagar or Jon Bon Jovi.

I could have sworn we had done Hendrix. Turns out we hadn't.

Re: 5/24/2015 Rush
Picked up Grace Under Pressure my sophomore year in high school when it was new. Never looked back. Unlike many, I did not proceed to throw them under the bus when I started college in the name of bullshit hipster cred. I was sooooo popular in high school. And college. And I don’t have half a flying...

I love DLR-era Van Halen. All six of those albums are golden, including the underrated Fair Warning.
The only Van Hagar tune I ever really liked was "Pound Cake."

Re: 5/14/15 The Cure
OK, it looks like there have been some sidefight artists that have not yet produced DRCs. Neil Diamond, Deretch Mode, INXS, Eagles, (P)Residents, Devo, Minutemen...
Some of those may be a bit obscure for a DRC, although Devo would be a nice one.

Re: 5/14/15 The Cure
So have we now covered every band for which there's been a sidefight? Anyway, yeah, way too many to mention. "Torture" from Kiss Me x3 is way up there. "A Forest" is an obvious choice for me, I did that in the sidefight. "Push" is a great pick. "Killing An Arab&quo...

Re: 5/7/15 Guns N' Roses
When I was living in a dorm in 1987, I had a guy living across the hall from me who was a huge metalhead. He introduced me to bands like Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. I became forever thankful, because I hated heavy metal at the time. Most of it that I’d heard was hair crap. Something else he tur...

There's also a Kearney Blvd, IIRC. Kearney is the name of one of the kids that bullies Bart. And also a Terwilliger Blvd - that's Sideshow Bob's last name.

My only substantive opinion of a Tom Petty song is my boundless hatred for "I Won't Back Down."

OK, this is getting ridiculous. This has been hanging over my head for months now and I am now making an executive decision as far as the GoM goes. I am fluffy’s gifter. When I went through his list originally, the Katamari Damacy song became by far my favorite of the four, and it really wasn’t clos...

Been a fan since "Eat It" came out. What was that, 30 years ago? Seen him live three times. First time was in a crowded saloon when he was touring for Off The Deep End , where I met Bermuda Schwartz before the show and got Al's autograph (and a kinda sorta maybe approval of my hand farting...

Re: Songfights of Faith and Devotion
I really don't like Deretch Mode. At all.
Having said that, there was one song of theirs I kinda liked, called "Now This Is Fun." It was a B-side from the Broken Frame era. So I will tentatively claim that one, although I need to do my long overdue GoM song first.

I can't believe no one bothered to make a Venn diagram. http://home.comcast.net/~mrebo/images/sfvenn.jpg Wow, now that's a very good song that I have never heard before, but actually includes an artist I like very much. -bill Just noticed this post. Were you talking about Steven Wilson or Aviv Geffe...
