Re: Nur Ein XVII Round Four - June Moon

June Moon by Stacking Theory Liner notes: I live in the Southern Hemisphere. June is the time of our longest nights, and our coldest and wettest days. I get sad and stressed every winter - leaving for work in the dark, coming home in the dark, and wishing the sun would come out from behind a beach-...

Re: Forum notification emails being delayed

Okay, I've set up songfight.net to use my mailgun account for now, and it's tested as working. Soon I'll find out just how many notification emails we send in a month! Dreamhost still says that the fix is "being verified" but the outgoing mail queue is still growing faster than mails are ...

And re: repetition, can we use the same lyrics for every chorus? Or are we expected to not repeat _any_ lines or anything _ever_...?

Thanks for the updates, Fluffy. I honestly just thought it was me somehow (I've had a few email shenanigans going on lately).

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

Edit: I will almost certainly mark you down for repeating, unless somehow it sounds awesome (but chances are I won't think that even if you do :D ). Well bugger - I just re-read my lyrics and looked at the whole song (instead of just looking at a single verse at a time) and I realised that the firs...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

So you could have ‘sky/behind’ or ‘laughter/after’ or ‘queen/machine’ end of line rhymes (as long as they’re not a couplet), but not ‘daughter/slaughter’ From this list, I would only count sky/behind as a slant rhyme. ‘laughter/after’ or ‘queen/machine’ are both phonetically identical, so they have...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

What about repetition, judges?

Is repetition a perfect rhyme?

(Obviously I’m still avoiding couplets)

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

No end rhymes means only the end of a line, right? So there could be internal rhymes all over the place as long as the end doesn't rhyme? Because I was wondering if this means, strictly speaking, that the title must not be mentioned in the lyrics since it rhymes. I guess not. Yeah that’s how I read...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Three "Can't Let It Go"

I’m just packing up from a lovely long weekend at the cold wet and windy beach. I saw a wombat, plenty of kangaroos, and went to a good & wine festival. I feel at peace and relaxed, but I really did miss writing and recording this week. Can’t wait to hear all your voices when I get home this arv...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Three "Can't Let It Go"

My "Plan A" fell through, so I'm scrambling here. On the bright side, my lyrics were finished (like, all the way finished) on Wednesday afternoon, which is about three and a half days faster than my average for rounds 0-2. And also on the bright side, I'm sticking with the same song idea ...

Oh dear. It's Thursday morning. I'm at work. Tomorrow I am going to the beach until Monday.

So far my song is a single lyric, and a basic chord progression. In my head. Oh dear.
Hey, I've got some good news.. :D

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Two "Floating In the Water"

Stacking Theory : This is a great tune, but as Sailing Magpie pointed out to me, the verse is a rip-off of MGMT's "Time to Pretend" and it's difficult to unhear that once it's been pointed out. That aside, I love the vocal synthing and chilled beats in the verse and prechorus. The grungey...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round One "Deified"

Stacking theory: the effects on the yeah vocals is so cool. What is that- the same sample pitch shifted to make chords? How you balanced the vocal effects is pretty cool throughout, actually. I would have liked some less affected vox at some point, to really bring out the coolness of the effects. E...

we're at the listening party and I'm struck by how many more words everyone else has than me. Nivs says not to worry about that. :?
Don't worry about it! I'm fairly sparing with my words also. Just as long as you choose the right ones, and put them in the right spots.

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Two "Floating In the Water"

Stacking Theory - lead vocal seems to be off to the left a bit, which is strange. oh then it goes center when the distorted guitar comes in. you're making the lo-fi / phasing effect on the vocals work. love the chill drums, they sit really well in the mix. it's a good vibe. Thanks for the feedback!...

In the second narrative, I am referencing Captain Cook and the First Fleet, who ar...
