Re: Woke up sweaty (Fever Dream pre-fight)

Learned my lesson, I'll submit early next time.

Now I just need to figure out how to draw the Universe for the next Fight.

Re: Woke up sweaty (Fever Dream pre-fight)

Crap. I did art for this fight but didn't submit it in time. That'll teach me.

Re: Songfights of Faith and Devotion

Depeche Mode has always been a pack of talentless eurotrash posers who think that droning in an apathetic monotone is the same thing as singing, and that hitting a button on a sequencer is the same as composing. So yeah, I'm in. How does this work? Do we call dibs on songs, or do we just cover which...

Re: Songfighter Videos on YouTube

Didn't see this anywhere, sorry if it turns out to be a re-post, but it's a wonderful unplugged video for "Needlepoint" by the Spinto Band. All of you old timers probably already know this, but this song was originally submitted to Song Fight (and won) as "Jimmy Hat" by Carol Cleveland Sings: http:/...

Re: Awesome Youtube videos

Here's another favorite YouTube video, a very short clip from the Fry/Hitchens/Widdecomb/Onaiyekan debate at Intelligence Squared, on the motion, "The Catholic church is a force for good in the world": jGFS_hkHfCc There's a bunch of footage of this debate on YouTube, and it's worth watching, but's l...

Re: Awesome Youtube videos

This has been around for a while now, so imagine everyone has already seen it. I'm amazed it hadn't been posted here before this. Cookie Monster does Tom Waits. Most mashup/fan vids that try this sort of thing are sloppy, but this has the best mouth-syncing out there. My favorite YouTube video of al...

Re: Bernie knows what I'm talking about (Lost Weekend review

Nick Soma: Not fond of the 'Escape Club' setting on the drum machine, but I love the lyrics and vocals. The "I was lost in the traces" and "I was left in the palace" harmonies/verses are fantastic. I listened to the song a lot, and I will continue to listen to it. inflatable vegetables: I'm a fan. W...

I doodle a bit. Recent examples attached. The cartoon is my attempt to emulate Kate Beaton, and the other is a drawing for "I Don't Believe You" by Boy and Guitar (done for an unrelated project):

Re: Commence rubbernecking (Stay In Your Lane reviews)

Not much in the way of reviews yet. Weird. Or maybe not so weird, because there were so many great entries for this title. I might have voted for all of them. Cookie Blue: Good singing, and good writing. What a great handle on composing melody, I envy that. I listened twice in a row the first time i...

Re: 2/3/15

I'm embarrassed to admit that the first band that popped into my mind was the Eagles. Also Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac, Sex Pistols, and New Edition. But black albums for any of those would be pretty bleak (with the possible exceptions of the Sex Pistols and New Edition).

Re: Jerkatorium

Thank you for the tips and clarifications, I'll gear my submissions accordingly. Hoblit: Thanks for the offer to sing, I hope that I can get my sh*t together far enough in advance to take you up on it sometime. Your cover of 15-16 Puzzle's "Unless I Change My Mind" has been on all of my iPod and iPh...

Jerkatorium

Hi, my name is Ryan and I'm submitting as Jerkatorium. I'm a long-time listener/lurker who has been listening and voting on and off since 2001. I submitted some art as geekrock'mo back in the mid-2000s (for "Adonai", "I Don't Believe You", and maybe some others). I attended the 2006 SongFight LA, mo...

Re: Be careful, they might have pens (Je Suis Charlie review

I'm somewhat reluctant to review - I'm a new-ish presence around here and I don't feel like I'm in any position to judge (especially in light of my own musical limitations). On the other hand, I appreciated reading all reviews of my submissions, both positive and negative, so here goes: Berkeley Soc...

Re: What is the hardest song to ruin?

I once had an album (on vinyl) that was just a bunch of cover versions of Flipper's "Sex Bomb". My favorite was essentially just the drum track and baseline with a couple of girls shrieking and screaming the "lyrics" for like 15 minutes. Flipper's "Sex Bomb" is a song that is, arguably, impossible t...

Re: Graphic novels worth reading

I haven't picked up a graphic novel since a binge about 25 years ago (Dark Knight, Watchmen, Elektra, etc), but I remember that Kyle Baker's "The Cowboy Wally Show" was one of the funniest things I'd ever read.

Re: Jan 16, 2015

A while ago a friend tried to turn me on to Theme Music, which is kinda like SongFight except it's mostly covers, it's done through facebook, and I think all submissions are videos. I also believe it's strictly weekly, so submitters have even less time to complete entries than SongFighters typically...

Re: Happily ever after...? (Grim Reality reviews)

Whenever I listen to the submission from The Worldly Self-Assurance (and I've been listening to it a lot since yesterday) I'm struck by how much the chorus and bridge sound like Jordan Seavers. Lovely work.

Grim Reality by Jerkatorium The birds I've known have flown away, The flocks have packed their boxes for the winter, But they were never meant to stay, You, on the other hand, are choosing your own, Drifting your own way.
