Re: the last review of a song etc. (the last afternoon revie
I listened to my drums again. I was wrong -- the snare isn't on 3 and 6, it's on 2 1/2 and 6. It was supposed to be a ghost note leading in to the kick on 3, to syncopate the whole thing a bit. That's still how I hear the groove. But if you're expecting the snare on the backbeat it might well throw...

Re: the last review of a song etc. (the last afternoon revie
There wasn't anything strange in the background; it was more that I could hear the room a lot in the vocals whereas the other tracks were so pristine and clear so it stood out a bit. I'm a huge fan of "hearing the room" in recordings; I find it so interesting when you can hear where someo...

Re: the last review of a song etc. (the last afternoon revie
Thanks for the review, bgm! I'm probably pretty guilty of trying to push the loud bits as loud as possible. I think it's probably because my internal reference level is really loud electronic dance music. I don't recall hearing anything weird in the background of the vocal track, but for the verses ...

The Last Afternoon of a Woman He Only Thought He Knew by Future Boy the shutters are cracked and he's wracking his brain he's seen her before at least he's pretty sure that twitch of the hips the way her hair flips is unmistakable as she crosses the street he shifts in his seat squinting his eyes wa...

Re: Get Well Glenn Case - a Songwriting Event
Oddly inspired, I humbly submit this heartfelt and also epically silly choral piece: Get Well, Glenn! by Future Boy This is a song expressing my desire that you should stay alive. It won't take long to listen to the choir refrain what I've contrived: Get well, Glenn! Please don't die! Don't let the ...

Re: Opinions from undisclosed locations (9/11 reviews)
Future Boy: At first I was like "this beat is sick!" but then it just kept going and going and I feel like it was kind of distracting once the vocals came in. Lyrics are pretty good, although I'm always turned off when a song starts with the same words as the title but that's just persona...

Re: Opinions from undisclosed locations (9/11 reviews)
Balance Lost Really catchy, nice energy. The vocal recording quality is low, obviously, but it's not getting in the way of me understanding the lyrics, nor enjoying the song. Well done! Banging Betty So, the ID3 tag says this song is called Aphrodisiac Bubble-Gum. Um? Regardless, the lyrics on this...

Re: A Musical Consipiracy Theory: Pre-Flight
Well, I wasn't sure if I was gonna commit to it, but I went ahead and finished the song I started. All up late on a school night, too. Gonna be a bit of a zombie tomorrow and it's all for you, Songfight! Ultimately, I think my song is supposed to communicate a particularly American brand of adherenc...

Re: 9/11 Was An Inside Job
9/11 was an inside job! It wasn't terrorists it wasn't the mob Because the government has secrets it wants to keep They turned the towers to a smoldering heap I've read the memos, I've heard all of the tapes I've watched the vids of people trying to escape And it disgusts me that they blamed it on I...

Re: Writer's bitch is such a block (Dry Spell reviews)
See, I like these lyrics, wish I could have heard them better in the song. Interestingly, the song that the lyrics suggest to me is WAY different than what y'all recorded. Not calling that out as negative, just interesting.Dori Kettle wrote: I have heard that some of you had trouble hearing the lyrics.

My turn! Do you read topics before you reply to them? If so, why do you think you said this after I had already posted a reply near the beginning of this thread that reads: The tracks seperately were good, but somehow the mix killed it, it was a horrible death. Perhaps you need to work on knowing w...

Re: Writer's bitch is such a block (Dry Spell reviews)
Stream of consciousness while listening because that's the only way these will happen. Banging Betty The sparse guitar and bass at the beginning is pretty ok. Really don't like it when the distorted guitar comes in. Vocals could be more solid. I can hear that you are trying to do a kind of bluesy th...

Re: Dry Spell
Dry Spell by Future Boy I'm in the middle of a dry spell and I decided that I'd tell you all about it. Though you've got every reason to doubt it, I'm sayin' it's the truth. I've gone on so many blind dates and now I find that I wasted every minute. My heart will no longer be in it. What do you need...

Re: What Happens at the Butchers Convention? (They Meet Reviews)
Thanks for the props Black Tyrano. It's interesting to me that people hear the rhodes as being overdriven. I've maybe overcompressed it, but I don't think overdriven is the right word. What it sounds like to me is that I may have played the two tracks a little *too* in sync and there is some weird p...
