Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Entropic Pincushion : This is the one made up of other people’s wins? It’s interesting. So presumably there is a way to determine at what point a particular song winner is. Like the random band I was in. Or More Than Soup. I actually like the extended version better because I can grab onto it more....

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Another batch of reviews. I'm feeling grumpy tonight so I apologize in advance to folks who got stuck in this section thanks to the playlist shuffle. Also I'm in the midst of a pain flareup which isn't helping matters. But I'll try to get to 75% because this has gone on long enough. Pigfarmer Jr : T...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

In case anyone else would benefit from this, I've added a thing so that you can unshuffle the names on the front page, so that if you've taken notes on which songs you want to vote for you can easily find them in the list. Just go to https://songfight.org/?noshuffle=1 and it'll keep the songs in alp...

That's the same generator that was responsible for the "future of music" entries, incidentally.

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Okay I ended up doing a version of Entropic Pincushion where the selected granule follows the duration of the song (i.e. the very beginning of Golfpunk Drives a Cadillac, the very end of Almost No Regrets). it doesn't sound any more cohesive but at least it sounds a bit more interesting. winners-pro...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

I thought about making it take the segment proportionally into each song based on where it was on the overall timeline (e.g. first chunk of Golfpunk, last chunk of Love Magic, middle chunk of Love Me a Little Bit More, etc.) to make it into an actual, like, song?ish thing with a progression and ever...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Entropic Pincushion : Was it a random sample or was there a pattern? Be funny if each section was taken in order but from different songs. I wish whoever was changing the radio stations on that ancient tube radio would decide on something. To be fair, there is something almost hypnotic about it aft...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Yeah some of the names are brilliant, especially on Alchemy.

I'm glad they changed the name of the "acoustic to electric" guitar preset though (formerly "sex change," ugh)

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Okay, my goal is to make it to the half-way point tonight. My enthusiasm is flagging, though. At least some of the stuff that had me busy and stressed for this week got postponed, although that's because there was a fucking COVID exposure at my choir rehearsal and everyone's getting sick and I hope ...

Never mind, I'm in, with a guest star (my robot vacuum cleaner which decided to start up while I was recording vocals and I decided it actually improved the sound)

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Here's my first set. Why doesn’t itunes let you shuffle a list of songs? What a terrible app. Anyway. The Windows ones didn’t do it any better. Annoying app devs. It used to but it's gotten really awful. What I ended up doing was stupid, but I created a smart playlist set to match only things from ...

Entropic Pincushion : I see what you did Just because you can do this Does not mean you should <3 : Reminded me of Bob Rivers - The Chimney Song Not my cup of tea Pringle Can : This sounds like it is Held together with duct tape And could fall apart The stars misalign Seems you always hate my stuff...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

For purposes of finding lyrics in 3 pages, is there a way to instead have phpBB show all the posts on one page? No, and I'd worry about what it'd do to forum performance if anyone could just unfurl an entire ginormous thread at any time. Every thread has its own RSS feed though ( here is the one fo...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Okay it's been a few days since my last batch of reviews, because I got busy with album release preparation and a few other things. I am a busy bee. But I'll try to get through a bunch more reviews, because, well, y'know. The John Benjamin Band : I feel like the vocals could be a bit louder in the m...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

The length issuue is purely one of display, and is caused by encoders not setting the total length tag combined with players trying to guess the length based on a bitrate estimate and getting it wrong. It’s an extremely longstanding issue with mp3s, and even if everything does get set correctly many...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

Frankie Big Face : This is one of those songs which sounds super familiar but I can't place it. Very 90s alt-rock vibes to it. I'm also a sucker for those scale runs, and the vocal harmonizing. Were those intentional Song Fight title references for 1000 words and swords? Thanks for the review, fluf...

Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)

All of these are in the order I listened to them, which was based on a shuffled playlist. As usual my brain is broken when it comes to actually comprehending lyrics so I'm sorry for missing out on whatever deep and meaningful thing you had to say. I'm gonna do this in batches. Here's my first batch....

let's just make a zip and stick it in the folder and link to it rather than generating on the fly
That's what I was going to do yeah
That's what I did and then I found an even better way to do it, so "download fight" should work again.

Re: Jukebox issue with artist names with entities in them

Yeah this stuff is really frustrating and obnoxious and 100% understandable. :) Nothing urgent here of course.

I’m not sure why nginx would have anything to do with it but who even knows what moving parts there are in a modern web stack anymore.
