People who say they went to the university of life. Usually because they took the course in advanced ignorance. People who say "You're just arguing semantics." when the issue is a semantic one. People who say "I'm not racist, but foreigners don't belong in our country." People wh...

there stopped being anything on TV we felt like watching. Dragging the two themes of this thread together... I don't watch much TV as its being broadcast - I record it on videotape or DivX, and watch it when (a) I can't sleep, or (b) My brain is to tierd to do anything intelligent, or (c) I need so...

it's the rock thing. \ = index finger, m = middle and ring fingers, / = pinky (or vice versa) In American Sign Language, this means 'I love you'. It was also used as a salute in Alistair Crowley's Church of Satan, but only made with the left hand. It turns up rotated through 90 degrees in 90s hip-h...

The science behind the Atkins diet is junk. The idea is that you can reprogram your digestive system to largely ignore carbohydrates, and to concentrate on breaking down protein and fat. I was actually on the diet for 10 days. So I now know what it's like to have a headache for 10 days continiously....

Not massively intelligent, but not a failure either

Andre Was Here at Midnight This kind of thing needs to be done very well to work. The bareness of the accoustic guitar, the hoarseness of the voice, and the way it drifts off key to suggest the singer is about to be overcome with emotion - when these work, we get a moving ballad. Unfortunatel...

International Man of Mystery

I'm in with a mystery collaboration. It's so mysterious, my mystery collaborator hasn't told me which title we're doing.

Oooh, unexpected results. Congrutlations, Bell Green, on being only the second UK songfighter (to my knowledge) to take the fight. Yes, surprising voting pattern. I'm surprised MoG didn't get more. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of Fifteen Years. Congratulations indeed to Bell Green, who I suspect ...

Josh is exaggerating about 128, but it does entail a noticible loss of quality. I compare it with hearing music on cassette. There is however a principle of diminishing returns with increasing bitrates. 160 sounds a lot better than 128, and 192 somewhat better than 160, but the difference between 19...

I don't sigh impatiently at electronic dance music. Are you surmising this as the result of some comment I made on somsongs about bad electronic dance music? I've done some checking and...it wasn't you I was thinking of. Just not sure which songfighter I was thinking of. Maybe it's just the general...

Kapitano - Nice effect on the voice, but needs to be louder in some parts. This is very well done and reminds me of the eighties. Quite well structured and arranged. Just push them vocals up lad. Ah yes, the mixing of vocals. Always tricky. The thing about finding a level for your own singing, so t...

Most of the TV I've seen on the election has been saying "It's going to be very very close. So close we can't possibly predict a winner", while gently hinting "Kerry. Probably. By a tiny margin. Because although the floating electorate don't trust him, they really don't trust B...

A A Ace Um. I wish I could like this more. The playing is good, though the piano sound could be better. And the voice is good, though the lyrics are sometimes clunky. The subject matter of gambling addition sits strangely with the kitch sound. Bell Green There's nothing especially wron...

Half a Stone

Kapitano - Half a Stone You can't see the future in a ball of glass You can't run your life with a map of the stars You can't fight a war with half a stone And you can't describe the unknown You can't force a stranger to be your best friend You can't blame fate for a senseless godsend You can't ben...
